A friend of mine in the newsroom found this:
In this undated photo, Brazilian Picuruta Salazar rides the so-called 'Pororoca', a wave which flows upstream and reaches a height of 4 meters, on the world's longest river, the Amazon, Brazil.
He surfed up from the beach deep into the rainforest... for 37 minutes! In a sport where most rides are measured in seconds, that's astounding.
Apparently, this happens only once a year. The river level goes down and all of a sudden, the ocean floods in to fill it. I don't entirely understand how that works, but I can believe it.
Anybody else know anything about the 'Pororoca'?
Or any other weird natural phenomena that get used by us thrill seeking monkeys?
