Apparently it's right on the cusp, they're not sure if it'll get renewed or not. It'll be such a shame if this series gets cancelled, especially with the set up that's taking place for Season Five.

C'mon. Barbelith votes for good TV. If it gets made this can turn into a spoiler/commentary thread, if not we can use it to bitch and moan.

Just did it. Hopefully I didn't nullify the dignity of my vote by also asking them to also renew Fastlane...

As long as 'Wanda At Large' stays on air I'm happy. Just voted to keep Angel too. Anyone actually know what 'Wanda At Large' is? All you american peeps, support the show, then it might wing it's way over to Britain so I can catch a glimpse. It sounds damn funny or alternatively it could be complete balls! LONG LIVE WANDA!!!! (oh and that Boreanaz bloke)

For all you Buffy fans out there who haven't been converted to Angel's charms...

Buffy ends this year. In all likelihood there won't be a new spin-off to air in Autumn.

With Angel as the only Buffy related show there's likely to be a large number of characters crossing over, either as regulars, standalone episodes or in arc plots. James Marsters is on record as saying that Whedon has asked him, and he's confirmed he's up for it.

It's also likely that some of the better Buffy writers will jump ship over to Angel.

Angel is the best hope for Buffy on-screen for at least a year. Vote now.

From the accursed Ain't it Cool:

We’ve not been able to confirm this with our best sources, who appear to have retired for the evening, but the switchboard has been lighting up all Tuesday night with news from lesser sources that the WB finally decided to slide “Angel” off the bubble and into a fifth-season renewal.

For those just joining us, this is exceedingly good news, because:

a) Tim Minear’s fourth-season finale script is an amazing knee-slapper, and spins the show into a wholly unexpected direction (hint: one of the show’s most prized elements returns to loom larger in the Team Angel lives than ever before);

b) Some of the best writers from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Firefly” are expected to migrate toward Team Angel, transforming the franchise into a kind of mutant enemy supershow; and

c) For the many asking whether Spike will die at the end of the “Buffy” series finale or if he’ll be part of the “Angel” cast next season, the answer is apparently “yes.” I know what I just typed.
All rejoice now.

Looks like they're already planning on undermining Buffy's finale, and sending the boys to work for the bad guys! Double hurrah!

As posted to the Season 4 thread, today's the day that the studios announce which series get renewed. Angel is on for Season 5!

The plus side is that the set-up for the Season looks very interesting - the crew going to work for Wolfram and Hart. The downside is that Spike is joining the cast (that's just a deeply stupid idea: introduce a character who has been put through almost exactly the same development trajectory as the series' lead. At least the writers will recognise the fact and take the piss out of themselves over it), and there'll be no Cordelia (they need another female regular quick).

Angel has been renewed, and has an option through season 6.

Guess their plan worked, but I hope they keep Conner out of the series forever...the character just never worked for me.

I guess I should say spoiler... but it's really just me speculating...

If Buffy doesn't stay with Spike or Angel... Does that mean she dies in the end, again? I mean, I'm all for the hero dying at the end of a story, but it's been done before with Buffy and so it lacks a certain punch. We all know Willow or Wolfram & Heart are capable of just bringing her back. A happy ending would've been more final. At least, for me.

Maybe she lives, but stays single? Woah, radical concept!

Apparently it's been confirmed that James Marsters will be on Angel S5. If you're spoiled for the ending of both current seasons, maybe you'll know what I mean when I say that I can actually see how that might work - how they'll avoid having two vampires with a soul on one show; how the presence of 'Spike' (I'll say nothing about those inverted commas) could piss Angel off even more than usual (not for reasons that involve Buffy-shagging, but in a way that will be complicated still further by Angel & co's new morally dubious position); and how ultimately this new addition to the show could end up filling a void in Angel's life (not romantically, sadly, although they are putting the show on after Smallville next season).

Looks like Charisma Carpenter isn't coming back as a regular - if that's the end of Cordy's story, it must be the most tragic one ever conceived in the Angel/Buffyverse...

Good news is that the WB is giving it a GREAT lead-in with Smallville. That series is WB's highest rated, and should appeal to an audience that would stay around for Angel. The WB also touted that Angel had gotten double digit increases in ratings in any timeslot it was in, which means it has a loyal audience that will follow it around the schedule.

And with the spoilers I have read, the big questions is, how will they get Spike in the series...but they REALLY hyped it at the Upfront presentation yesterday, saying the main conflict character-wise would be between "The two vampires with souls."

Spike as the fulfilment of the Sanshu prophecy? Now that would make his character really fucking work in the show. A great idea (and something that BBLith has speculated about since he got his soul back.

I agree with you on Cordelia, BTW.
