I want to meet some nice Barbefolks face to face. To this end, I will be going to Southampton and sitting in a pub drinking and talking about Magic, philosophy, Buffy, the relative merits of the star wars trilogy etc. etc. hopefully not on my own.

Time and place tbc, suggestions please from you locals (I'll be coming from Winchester) I think next week/in a couple of weeks, but I'm easy

There's a contradiction there somewhere, but I can't quite put my finger on it...

We could help them set up an escape committee. I'm sure they don't really want to be living there.

Bet someone suggests bloody Goblets... I hate that place since they installed lighting.

But, yes, 'bout time I got to know more folk on that scene in the area. I'm sure I know half their faces already. 'twould be good to put names to them.

20:20 / 08.04.03
Goblets would work. We'll ask them to use the dimmer switch just for you. Alternatively the Hobbit is close enough to JtB's to entice him out...

Kamal Smith
06:41 / 09.04.03
They have a dimmer switch?

Seth
08:31 / 09.04.03
They have all kinds of fucked up technology, including machines for washing glasses and playing music. I hear some of them can even assist in the preparation of food...

Kamal Smith
10:05 / 09.04.03
...and most people's sole reason for going there in the past was that the machine for playing music did not require insertion of coinage to operate.

The thing with Southampton is, however grotty it gets, all you have to do is click your heels together and think of Portsmouth.

Regrettable Juvenilia
07:39 / 10.04.03
The jukebox in Goblets is still free.

Won't be able to make it down to the town I'll always think of as Gothampton in April, but I'll be up, down, flying around sometime this summer, I'm sure...

Hmmm Pompey (A place not to be a Paediatrician!) and Soton (Nottingham on Sea!). Are there truly any better reasons for global warming?

Stick with Winchester Ben, at least we have character here

Kamal Smith
18:35 / 10.04.03
Winchester suits me too. Where and when? Anyone up for a drink tomorrow (friday 11th april) night?

jeff
01:17 / 11.04.03
Bear in mind that Solent Blue Line insist on employing positively demonic drivers on the 47. Where abouts in Winchester were you thinking?

Kamal Smith
10:44 / 11.04.03
Not sure if I can make it tonight after all. Where are your usual Winchester haunts?

Kamal Smith
14:08 / 11.04.03
Ben, email your phone number to me at oddcult at opi8 dot com . Still dunno what I'm doing, but I may be up for coming over for a drink or summat.

jeff
13:59 / 13.04.03
I hear rumours concerning a new metal club in Southampton. Does anyone know anything about this?

Kamal Smith
18:03 / 13.04.03
Yeah, I saw a poster for it, but they were out of flyers. It shall have to be investigated.

Seth
18:44 / 13.04.03
Are you referring to the metal night at the Old Fat Cat? That's the newest one I know of. You should be able to tell how bad it'll be from the venue...

jeff
19:19 / 14.04.03
Nope, the rumour I heard was on a mailing list and it specifically mentioned plans for a new nightclub. Admittedly they also said that it had only just got out of the planning stages.

I think the Hobbit would be best, how 'bout next Friday? (25th) which gives us time to badger people into coming?

ephemerat
16:12 / 15.04.03
Next Friday at The Hobbit? Hmm... well it would be very out of character for me to be there on a Friday night, but hey, just this once. Plus it has an all-day (12-7) Happy Hour on Fridays - may be useful to those who travel (and I can meet any one, any time, any place in Soton)...

jeff
20:17 / 15.04.03
May I add that the student population has decreased dramatically at the Hobbit, due to Easter and other incidents. Suffice to say, it's no longer unbearably crowded.

Kamal Smith
21:13 / 15.04.03
"Other Incidents"

That's a delicate way of putting it...

jeff
21:53 / 15.04.03
I can't see the value of bringing it up and possibly making people feel uncomfortabel.

Kamal Smith
23:39 / 15.04.03
Point.

Quantum
08:01 / 16.04.03
Righty ho you lovely geezers/geezeresses, Friday 25th April at the Hobbit it is. Persuade nice people to come along, badger any other barbelithers you think might come.
Having not done this sort of thing before, how do we recognise each other? (except for the mad glint in the eye)

Leap
08:38 / 16.04.03
Engage someone in converstation - if they appear to be uncomfortable talking whilst not moving their fingers, its a barbie

Kamal Smith
14:14 / 16.04.03
And if anyone is in Winchester tonight, I intend to be drinking in the Railway. Probably around 9ish.

Caroline
00:05 / 17.04.03
Ok, guess I'll be there if only to keep up the pretence that all Southampton lithers aren't all mean and nasty. Will probably be the only girly though so should be easy to recognise. Might also be carrying a BOOK to make it more obvious.

Quantum
07:46 / 17.04.03
Hell, I'll almost certainly be carrying a Buffy book
So y'all know, I am blonde, wear glasses and a brown leather jacket, and have a dashing smile and charming demeanour!

Seth
08:23 / 17.04.03
Sounds like fun. Only problem is I'm double booked.

What time are people going to arrive from? I may be able to fit in both...

"Hmmm Pompey (A place not to be a Paediatrician!)"

Oi! Just for the record, the pediatrician incident didn't take place in Portsmouth. I can't remember exactly where it did happen, but I'm pretty sure it was some rural backwater hick town. Not actually Winchester, but somewhere like it.

Quantum
12:31 / 17.04.03
Hopefully 7ish, will be there until closing I reckon. JtB available y'think?

Not to mention a light-bending ego

Backwater?!! Hick?!!!

My home this is!!!

Winchester no backwater is! Sleep with our cousins we do not! (mostly because house prices force them to move to different time zones!)

Hmph!

Jack The Bodiless
19:07 / 18.04.03
Well, given that the Hobbit is four doors away from my house, I think I can be persuaded to attend. Where in the fuck did all of these Southampton area Barbelith people come from? Quantum and reflect and the rat I know... small world, I guess. Wouldn't want to paint it, though.
