What football team(s) do you support?

A quick poll...

After my Dad's first team got their arses kicked yesterday by bloody Everton, I thought it might be fun to find out who supports whom in the football world. Me? I go with Liverpool.

Arsenal here Cholister (hold back on the booing and hissing). Is football popular on the 'Lith?

(We're going to throw it away this season, though...)

There are, as has been commented before, a core of football friendly 'lithers... wait and see who comes out of the woodwork. Personally, I've started to find the whole thing more and more enjoyable...fascinating, even.

Wigan Athletic. Twelve points clear and Division One here we come!

Celtic. Finding it a more and more amusing thing to follow as I get older. As a nipper I always recoiled from it as it was just impossible to escape it- everyone in the house watching telly on a Saturday afternoon, and it just being associated with a really horrible, petty, boring mindset to me

England.

No, seriously. I get really into football once every two years (Euro & World Cup), but I can't keep an interest at club level. Nominally, though, my allegiance lies with Leeds United, although I just let bengali in platforms support them for me...

probably a wise decision, given this season.

Mind you, six goals against charlton is about four more than we've scored all season.

Future: i really hope you don't, but i suspect you may be right...

if you're talking *football* then it's the 49'ers. If you refer to *soccer* then a team of David Beckham's... please. With me as the physio.

No, dear - in the UK, football *is* soccer. Generally. But make of the question what you will.

Hope you're right BiP, but they just look that little bit more committed and they almost always can do what they need...

Good result at the weekend though for you given Charlton have really been pretty strong at home.

Leeds for me too when I can be arsed, though I'm not hugely into football. And if they sell Harry Kewell to Man United then I swear I'm going to watch European football instead. Now there's a classy game. It's like all the easy bits of basketball, rugby and soccer put together.

My vote goes to Earls Park (The Sparks) and the footballers’ glamorous wives. Wonderful shower action with Beckhamesque striker Kyle Pascoe and evil captain Jason Turner.

... although I hear Harchester United are playing well this season!

What's going to happen tonight then - a wonderful display of European football from some of the game's greats? A walk in the park for Real? A determined and awing performance from Fergie's boys?

The Team Formerly Known As The Balmain Tigers. Curse corporate sporting wank. Of course, this is only because I now live in the area and they play up the road from me. I was brought up a Parramatta Eels boy...

Now Known As Wests Tigers, eh? The horror of forcing two teams from miles apart to merge. I used to go for St George, who are now Illawarra-St George. Didn't Manly merge mith Norths as well? Absolutely tragic. Alas poor Souths, I knew 'em well.

LIverpool born and bred, and Red is my colour.

Why do the Americans call their version "football"? Isn't it more about the throwing rather than the kicking? Surely "American Rugby" would be more fitting. Oh I don't know. Pfft.

Not to fear, Angel. It seems they're back to normal:

For 1998 the playing strength of the Sea Eagles was greatly diminished by a lack of funds available to the football club. The club had spent much of its resources to assist the ARL's battle and this was exacerbated when the team's major sponsor was lost to a Super League club (Cronulla).

At the end of the 1999 season, despite meeting the criteria for inclusion in the NRL's 2000 competition, Manly agreed to merge with the insolvent North Sydney Bears. Together they formed the Northern Eagles for continued participation in the NRL.

The Northen Eagles venture ultimately collapsed at the end of the 2001 season and the NRL licence reverted to Manly. The club continued under the Northern Eagles name in 2002, though poor crowds at Gosford saw a quick return to Brookvale Oval. After finishing just outside the semi-finals in 2002, Manly announced that from 2003 onwards they would be playing again as the 'Manly Sea Eagles'.

And Rothkoid, I am very proud to have with me in Britain an official Newtown Jets sticker. God bless 'em.

Ya know, if it ain't broke - don't fix it! They never, never learn do they!

It's nice to know that somethings get returned to their rightful way of being!

Thank you Loomis, I feel much better now!

The Mighty Southampton! Semi-final of the FA Cup! bring on the Arsenal at Cardiff! Come on you saints! And I'd just like to bring up the James Beattie scandal. What else could the man possibly need to do to get into the England squad? He has scored more goals this season than Heskey, Vassell and Rooney combined I believe. More goals than Henry and Van Nistelrooy and theyre supposed to be "world class" players. so whats up with that? It really pisses me off

United. I like football. Although after going to all but 2 matches this season I am going to be on the other side of the planet for the return leg against Real.
I also like Ayr United and Cardiff City. I laugh lots at Leeds. How much? Except when they beat us and stuff.

Chelsea, despite never having resided anywhere near the South West of London. It's good to see obtaining some match-winning consitency after seasons of Real Madrid-esque feats of skill followed by psychotic defensive lapse. So not enough for me have lost, in true Fever Pitch style, a feeling of almost existential nervousness and ill-feeling whenever I watch them play. I was worried for ages that we were threatening to "do a Leeds" (sorry plums) and spiral frighteningly down the league. To my relief, Leeds have done so instead.

We still can't beat Arsenal though.

I also get my non-league kicks from Dad's team, the hilariously ill-monikered Chelmsford City. I still wonder why away fans never respond to our chant of "CITY!!!! CITY!!!!" with something along the lines of "You're just a medium-sized cathedral town in the commuter belt..."

Dundee, obviously.

You're not even Mancunian are you, Buk? You've never been to Old Trafford, have you?

(I got in a fight at a party with someone once for behaving like this. The secret to football is that it's all about hate.)

Mancunian? I'm not even from the same country. That is always sure to piss everyone off. Good. In fairness though I have my reasons and I have had a season ticket since before we actually starting winning everything.

There is only one united.

God, I love football. Real Madrid excite me. Missing that game is going to be torture.

What about a new thread? Best footballing moment. Mine was when I scored from the halfway line. At, erm, five-a-side. I'm not very good.

There are many Uniteds dude, the ones I mentioned before being only a handful. And you haven't even said the name of your team yet. Old Trafford? That's Manchester United right?

Yes I am a facetious little shit. But my team's a load of crap so I have to make up for it somehow. Heh heh heh ...
