The Art\Fashion section of Barbelith is so disappointing I could cry.

And no mention of Nico era Velvet Underground in the music chat section.

The 'New Puritan' manifesto is more contradictory and confusing then any given religious book (Cept for Andy's diaries, natch).

The war would be so much more interesting if the Brothers Quay were directing it.

Growing up modelling my career on Phil Specter only to have the fucker waste his girlfriend over a tiff about just how fat Brian Wilson is has destroyed my momentum.

Well the answer is to start the threads you want to see...

Therein lies the problem.

Then other people post what they want to see and I end up reading about yarn and wife swapping.

I need some kind of godly moderation powers to find the happy medium between the D&G chat and the postmodernism mail out.

Cloning doesn’t sound like a drag at all...

I'm thinking my own race of atomic supermen.

When I was but a fetus the segment of Sesame Street where one of those shapes is not like the others really opened my eyes.

‘In any event, only delightful memories come back to you. You cannot see your own face at that moment. But because of a succession of pleasant memories flashing through your mind, you feel that you smiled at the last moment. You may nod then, or wonder what happened. You may even hear a final sound like the breaking of crystal. Then you are no more.’ Kamikaze Pilot Manual.

Crimes Of Fashion, I get the distinct impression that you have very little interest in what anyone else here has to say. You don't need us to hear your own voice, man.

Flux, I'm being facetious don't get your panties in a bunch.

Text is without timbre,man.

That's the problem with people, Voice: they're always gonna do what they do, rather than what you want them to do.

Sorry, did I call you "Voice"? I meant "Crimes."

I trace this to the fact that I was just listening to a song called "Voice of Crime."

And no mention of Nico era Velvet Underground in the music chat section.

Well let's put that down to the fact it's a 35 year old record that the vast majority of us are already quite familiar with.

Not a great deal left to say on the subject except "Hey, VU & Nico is a fantastic album and has had a profound effect on a lot of subsequent music" "Yeah, we know".

I think the other reason for a lack of discussion on older albums (and comics and books and the like) is that they have been beaten to death in other forums, magazines and such.

To use comix for example...there's not a lot of discussion about the works of EC because everyone who cares about comix has already learned a lot about them. I could post a long essay about the way Kurtzman didn't live up to the potential of the early MAD because he spent the last 30 years of his life drawing titty jokes, but other than a lot of people saying, "Yup, I guess so", it wouldn't be a discussion.

I confess that I never go into the "fashion" area because I know as much about that as I do about being successful in realtionships...so why don't you write a thought provoking essay and see what happens?

Crimes, you're a quirky, interesting voice. Now get off your arse and start some threads in Art/Fashion if'n yer so durned tootin' disappointed. Bring along some friends to get the chat kicked off, and away we go.

Now me, I'm ignant about such things, so I can't very well be starting a clothes/design/art thread. If you want to lay down some opening lines, maybe people will come...

There's an Art and Fashion section? blimey, that's a bit out of the way isn't it? too far to go if you ask me, I know what I like and what I like is at the top of the page so you don't have to use all this new fangled scrolling-down technology. It'll never catch on.

Sorry, the topic abstract said 'scream of consciousness' and I just have to obey abstracts, sometimes in the personality of an old technophobe. Dunno why. Nico & Velvets, yup. Why stand around praising things when you can argue instead? One of the best times I've ever had was with my head next to a big stereo, speaker for each ear, 'Heroin' placing loudly, v.stoned, great fun.

Jack Fear:

Is that the one with the dude whanging on some iron pipe, going, "and I'm here to pound some stupid into your under-standing face!!!" and ranting about how "and we listen to Hank Willums Jooomer"?

Having Nico sing 60s pop songs was like if Ronnie Spector, in "Be My Baby," decided to replace the tamborine with a gong.

Not so much of a complaint as the first couple of things that came to mind.

Was listening to VU, had just put on YSL shirt, setting fire to 'The New Puritan Manifesto' - Being bummed cause I have the flu (regular supermarket kind).

Thus, 'Scream Of Consciousness'.

Say whatever.

And yeah... Nico was totaly sullied.

If her demands for the album were put thorugh 'No flutes, no Strings Guitar and Noise!' it would have been goddamn stunning...
and we'd possibly be further along in the female to male artists ratio.

Ladytron sound like Nico fucking Fischerspooner.

The actor that 'sang' on the first Emerge video.

His faux bloody nose gave her the vapors.

She'd settle for the dude in the gucci suit, being dead and all she's not picky.

Music ended the day Woodie Guthrie died.

At least that's what my grandfather used to say, but he was a regular drunkard and wifebeater who still finds Casey Spooner (aye, that afore-mentioned actor/mime artist/glitter whore) sexy in a cute kind of way. The type of dude who preferred Nico's motorbike skills to her singing.

Whatever: just remember - for every VU there's a Jesus & Mary Chain and a Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

I'm still awaiting the Taylor Dayne revival anyway.
