Before you get hot, please note the ironic use of "fanboy."

Inlight of recent developments, I thought there might be some utility in having a place to put the "Hey, anybody know if Shaman has been used lately?" stuff.

Here's some general sites of interest to fanboy researchers:

Unofficial Handbook to the Marvel Universe"

The Women of Marvel, which has disappeared for some reason, but they say they're trying to get it back up.

Marvel Villains

Oh, do your own google search.

So I'll start. Anyone read anything Hand-related lately? I haven't been following Elektra or that Kung Fu Johnny or whatever it's called, which seem like the most likely places for the Hand to turn up. I'm not crazy about the Hand, but I've got ninjas in Shanghai and I wondering if a Marvel story about ninjas must involve the Hand to some extent. Last I knew the Mandarin had taken control of them, but that was way back in the Siege Perilous days.

And Darkstar's dead, right? So what's Vanguard up to? Given his ties to Russian military intelligence, you'd think X-Corp would want him onboard. The last book I read with him in it was X-Men vs Avengers, which was like 15 years ago. Has he been seen lately?

Can't really help with any of your questions except to suggest that perhaps you should do a little research around Shang-Chi (master of kung-fu) if you want non-Hand based martial arts fellas.

Here's another link.

By the way, speaking of Shang-Chi, anyone knows Fu Manchu's situation?

I read from reviews of Marvel Knights that he was still alive, but then there was that Master Of Kung Fu MAX mini-series, and i'm not sure anymore.

The Hand showed up in Elektra in the current story, seeking revenge for...I dunno, Elektra being alive and not done by Frank Miller? It ends next month.

I believe Fu Manchu was used in the new MOKF series according to reviews, but I'm waiting for the trade.

I've been looking through those links and I don't find what I'm looking for (and the women of marvel would probably be the most helpful but it's not working.) Does anyone know if Marvel has a feminine archetypal goddess character? And I know Grant is developing Jean in that direction but is there anyone else?

Only if you think of Jim Starlin's version of Death as a female goddess character.

Holy shit, Rose, I was just reading those old Clairemont Man-Things last night -- just got em out of storage. Man, those are good stuff.

The Kung Fu Johnny, I mean Shang Chi Master of Kung Fu looks pretty dim, and yeah, I saw that the Hand were in Elektra again, but I decided, fuck it. The Hand is the ass, I'm not using em.

imp, I think the wonder woman/promethea types in Marvel tend to be more Kirby-esque, like Medusa and so on. But a little voice is telling me you should look at secondary Doc Strange characters. I know there was an alternate-dimension Sorceress Supreme with green skin and horns. Or, what about Malice, from the Marauders?

Maybe this is just a subtle and underhanded way of marvel enhancing sales of back issues whilst also conving readers that the old comics really were great.... or not.

It's possible, but if so they're cannily seeking to harness something that's been on the web for a few years now. Also, afaik, Marvel doesn't get anything for shilling its back issues -- as far as Marvel's concerned, the Fallen Angels limited series has brought in as much revenue as it's going to.

I didn't care for Claremont's "Man Thing" because it came so closely on the heels of Gerber's run, which was one of the best things of the 70's. To this day I am amazed that it was ever a minor hit (let alone sold on newsstands), as he twisted the form almost as much as was possible in a non-underground comic book.

Howard The Duck got all of the attention, but Man Thing was just an amazing book (as was issues 25 - 40 of The Defenders).

I've never seen Gerber's Man-Thing, I was just a wee baby. I bought these Claremont Man-Things as cheap back issues when I was about 11. I dunno, though, they're pretty cool. I'll keep an eye out for the Gerbers -- thanks for the background.

Many of the best characters available at those links are Gerber ones; I especially like the Topographical Man.
