As this is now on, I was wondering if anyone is going to see any of the films. I'm taken a look at the line up and it seems very interesting.

One that I have seen is Karmen, which is a Senegalise interpretation and can highly recommend as incredibly good. I probably won't go and see it myself as I have seen it. I suspect that my main interests will be the Canadian stuff.

I plan to be the smug git with the Gold Pass.

Anyone else?

there's a lot that looks interesting, am intrigued by 'lock up your sons and daughters', the 'gender double' selction looks really good, and I may have to go see Girl King, or die.

Potus, do you know anything about Ileana Pietrobruno, the Canadian dir.?

Sadly I will have to answer no to that but I'll check a couple of my sources for info.

In the meantime I would like to recommend the four films that I have seen so far, should they come to a TV near you.

Transfixions - Belgian transexual whodunnit as it happens serial killer drama.

Guardian of the Frontier - Croatian Deliverencesque journey of self discoveries (not all gay) against a backdrop of rural idealism.

Hell House - Documentary of the tenth yearly Halloween event by christian fundamentalists which attempts to scare people into believing in God. The film has certainly scared me into never visiting Cedar Hills, TX.

Beyond Vanilla - An exploration of a variety of BDSM activities, people who do them, their experiences and reasons for doing it.

[Can't attend the festival, as I'm on a different continent, but I have seen Hell House, and thought I could/should comment.]

My friends and I saw Hell House a few months back at local University. It was... interesting to say the least, although I don't think it was focused enough. It tried to be "ambiguous" without ever really stating whether it agreed with, or disagreed with the actions of the Church and the haunted house. I know that documentaries [and journalism in general] are supposed to be un-alligned and without bias, but it fails in this case. The director's opinion does come through, as hard as tries to keep it out of the way.

The project itself, the haunted house, is both horrifying at times [not because they do an effective job with it, but because there are some crazy/scary fanatics out there] and laughable [because of the crazy/scary fanatics].

Worth seeing, although best if found for cheap, or free.
