No, really, I've just got so much on my plate lately, it's gogogo and I feel there's constant tension and pressure and such... anyone want to give me some good ideas for destressors? Hot baths are all ready a favourite, and unfortunately so is booze. But I'll take other ideas. Also part of the problem is I'm really busy so I don't have LOTS of time for these destressors, but I'll do my best to work the good ones in.

Help! Thanks!

Option 1. Rescue Remedy - this is a Bach Flower remedy which works on Homeopathic principles and is available from Chemists, Health Food Shops and some Supermarkets. All that doesn't really matter, the IMPORTANT BIT is that it works. A few drops put under the tongue is really helpful in times of stress and anxiety, as it calms down the adrenal system (fight/flight reflex) and promotes a sense of calm and well being without clouding or clogging your mind. I have used it for years and recommend it to just about everyone. I have questioned many different alternative health practioners about the remedy and have always been reassured that it doesn't react badly to being used in conjunction with any other form of medicine or drug (always a good thing to know) and is non-addictive so you can keep using it for as long as you need, without worrying about physical addiction. Should kick in within 10-15min. Use as often as necessary.

Option 2. Chammomile Tea - This doesn't work in an overt way, but helps to under-pin the other efforts you are putting in to help relax you. At the moment it would probably help for you to avoid caffine and high levels of sugar where possible. Cutting them out entirely would probably induce more stress which would defete the purpose of the exercise, but cutting down would be a definate bonus.

Option 3. Breathing Exercise. Take 5 mins out of your day to sit and breath deeply. Can be done at work, during a lunch break in a park, on the tube, especially good done before bed. Sit neutrally with your feet/legs together, feet flat on the floor, back straight, arms relaxed by your sides and hands folded gently in your lap. Take a slow deep breath in, pause and then let the breath out slowly and gently. Repeat. As you continue to breath in and out slowly, observe how your body feels and see if you can notice any places you are feeling tense or tight. Then with the next in breath "imagine" you are placing your breath into that place and as you breath out, you breath out all the tension and tightness in that place. Continue as desired. This particular exercise can be done at any time of day and for any length of time, but it can be quite a useful grounding technique if things are getting hectic during your busy day. Even 5 mins of this can be quite effective.

Cherry - there are probably thousands of options that could be useful to you, but these are the ones I use and come to the front of my mind most readily. I tried to think of things that were easily achieveable too.

Anyway, good luck. Remember that awareness of a problem means that you are already half-way to finding the solution. Love and hugs to you.

Would you like *cough* extras?

No extras thanks Mr. Funnyman. Yes I'm just trying to do it all without having a breakdown or turning into a bitch from hell, and considering I seem to have lost/misplaced my Switch/cheque guarantee card I can add that stress to the mix. I'm stilly my chirpy self, though, I just want a holiday or someone to come over and clean my room and make dinner for me.

Just might try that rescue remedy...

I'll second angels breathing suggestion, try it in the morning and in the evening after work. Could do with some chill time myself everything is going apeshit at work - System error 15's and 10's all over the place, it's manic.

Had a dream last night though where someone gave me a drug called Oriental Opias and boy I wish I had some of that in the real world never felt anything like it in the real or dream world!

Chamomile tea with Rescue Remedy in it, I'll second that. I swear by rescue remedy and so does everybody I know. It even works on animals and plants.
Maybe followed by a fat spliff and some mindless TV. Take that, stress!

Sorry, Cherry. You'll be the first to know when I find a cure for stress that doesn't involve a blinding hangover.

Fist on chest, just below collarbone, and.....think of Alan Rickman.

Alan....Rickman.

There.

Personally, i favour the obscene Heidi method. Sing a couple fo bars of the theme tune to Heidi, then, at a random moment, scream an obscenity at the top of your voice. It's not exactly transcendental meditation, but it seems to work...

Haus, does this work with any song, or is it only the theme tune to Heidi? (Only I can't remember it...)

*thinks*...nope, frighteningly, what's come into my head is the theme tune to 'Howard's Way.'

Try the 'tension tamer' tea on the shelf to the right of my desk! Hope you have a better day today.

I like the Fuck It routine myself.

Somewhere in the run of the day you will actually be able to just say Fuck It and take at least half an hour out. Go sit by a river, have a mindless chat with a hobo, anything you weren't about to do really.

The act of taking control over my life seems to invariably give me the energy I need to deal with the rest of the stuff without getting stressed.

Alternatively you could opt for some quality Time Crisis time. I'm sure I've spent enough on this game to raise the creators stock market profile a couple of points.

I always find that the simple act of going for a walk relaxes me and puts me in a better mood. (Although it probably helps that I live in a relatively unpolluted and attractive city)

Amazingly after being intensely bitter AND stressed that I had to go to my class last night and worried about finances/the whole check card thing, and arriving to my class oh, about 30 seconds before I was supposed to start my practice, I ended up doing some of my best work for my class yet, and I can tell within 5 minutes that I was going to do a great job. And afterwards I got loads of compliments. Thriving under pressure? Mayhaps.

I think I'm going to try the exercise and possibly the tea thing. No, really, exercise.
