What a great story! I frequently find myself imagining that I have sent my mind back 10 years into my 1993 (or whatever) body. Besides the obvious thrill of knowing everyone's actions in advance I also imagine I do what this guy apparently did (in the story)...only to realize I haven't got a clue what to invest in. This guy is fortunate he did his homework before he left. Well, I hope it all works out for him in the end.

It would have been cooler if he made the money on sporting events, like in Back to the Future 2, especially if his schemes were thwarted by Michael J. Fox.
Hey, there's no shame in having your schemes foiled by the Fox. he's thwarted my plans for world domination on many an occasion, and we've always had a good laugh about it afterwards.
Odyssey Five is a sci fi show on Sky One and I've not been allowed to watch it because my weekly quota was used up by Farscape... oh, the horror of living in a shared house!
... Until they moved it to Sky poncing Mix only. As far as I can tell, Sky Mix only shows stuff that was on Sky One the night before. What seems to be the sole exception? Odyssey Five. Fuckbakes!
Takes a while to warm up but it is really good. It's got a deeply sarcastic guy who's response to travelling back in time 5 years is to find pop stars just before they get famous and marry them, and to use a memory of American football games to make money. And it's got Robocop in it! And he swears a lot! It's ace.
Which probably means it got cancelled after one season.
