Has any one been to see Kaiju Big Battel? My brother called me up yesterday, and he wants to go next month when they are here in NYC, but I can't decide if it'll be cheesy in a good way, or cheesy in a very, very bad way.

If you don't feel like following the link, Kaiju Big Battel seems to be live-action a cross between the WWF and the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. Costumed freaks fight each other in a ring, amid plastic replicas of buildings, etc. There's some sort of storyline, I gather.

Opening for them are the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players, a New York Act that's been gaining in notoriety and I guess is tangentially linked to They Might Be Giants and McSweeneys. Anyone see them?

So, should I go? Bear in mind tickets are 20 bucks, which does seem a bit pricey. At 5 or even 10 dollars, it'd be worth the risk, but 20? There's the question.

And I want answers. Now!

I've seen these guys a number of times over the years. They're a group of art-school kids from Boston, and while $20 might be a bit stiff, I'd recommend going rather than not. It's cheese, to be sure, but good rather than bad, and if nothing else, you've got the prospect of a bunch of big, silly costumes to gawk at.

Tractenburg is worth $20 alone. I was so entertained by them it made me embarrased.

Todd, any amount of cheese can be properly dealt with by a preliminary treatment of alchohol.

I'd go. I've been wanting to the see the Trachtenbergs for a while now.

See, MJ-12, preliminary treatment of alcohol would require subsequent reinforcement by nicotine, which'll be a no-no in clubs by then. Unless I take up dipping.

It's April 26th at Roseland, Flux. PM me if you're interested. You too, MJ.

I just saw Kaiju Big Battel for the first time this weekend. I was laughing so hard my smile muscles ached by the end of the night. It was the silliest thing I've seen in ages. Highly recommended!

YAY SUPER WRONG!

Shit, THAT'S what NYClithers ought to do en masse. Maybe all show up wearing luchador masks. Those of us who don't get arrested on the way over on trumped up charges of terrorism will wrestle the Plaintain Brothers!
