Has anyone found any bands that have been influenced by the Invisibles?

I don't want to be an advertising bitch,...... but I found one and bubbling over with happy about it. You can find their music here.
And their home page href="http://www.deadboyandtheelephantmen.com/index.htm">here.
Basically I just like this band and the fact that they used Ganesh as the cover of their last album and the Hand of Glory on the previous one is just gravy. If any you people like pop that combines dark country and David Bowieesque experimentation this you might like. Or I might get a lot of shit for being so happy about such a depressing band.

Anyways has anyone else noticed music that references the Invisibles or uses any of the iconography of the series?

Speaking of shameless advertising...

My one man musical project "Sypha Nadon & the Faeries" has a few nods to the series, but I've never officially released an album so I don't think I count.

For the record, my nods to it:

-I have a instrumental song called "The King Is Dead" which is what Sir Miles says before he kills himself.

-I have a song called "Machine Elves", but that's more a McKenna reference. Then again, I didn't even know who McKenna was before The Invisibles.

And I mention the comic series by name in the lyrics of one song. That's about it for me, but I do have nods to gods who are namechecked in the series: "Enter Horus", "One Nation Under Pan", etc.

I basically do electronic punk/power noise music for the most part...

The closest band I could find that reminded me of the Invisibles was Pop Will Eat Itself. Songs about armageddon and karma and whatnot, you know. Lots of fun.

Do you have any MP3s of your music, Sypha?

The Damage Manual are really, really Invisibles-influenced. They even have a song called King Mob.

Well, I do have a few MP3s on-line at the moment

One of the songs I mentioned, "Machine Elves", can be found here:
http://homepages.fh-giessen.de/~hg11595/files/sypha_Machine_Elves.mp3

And here's another, "Enter Horus" (sans the Crowley sample that I tacked on at the end of the song that appears in later versions):

http://storm.campus.luth.se/ttlgmusic/Sypha%20Nadon%20-%20Enter%20Horus.mp3

Actually, I have a few other MP3s at that second site, but most of them are old and not really worth downloading, with the exception of "Existentialism". I wish I had a song with vocals on-line but at the moment I don't so it's just instrumentals.

I'm in a band called 7+7 is...

Safe to say you're a big Love/Arthur Lee fan, then?

The Boo Radleys' Martin Carr was a fan, as was one of The Orb. Alex summat?

Dunno if there was any particular reference in their songs. Wonder if Kula Shaker's 'Crispy' Mills read it...?

I like to think that Fischerspooner's 'Invisible' and Underworld's 'Cowgirl' (opening line 'I'm invisible I'm invisible I'm invisible'. Think it's 'Cowgirl'...) are related, but that's because I like them and don't any of the aforementioned affirmed fans bands.

I think Cowgirl is definitely connected but that because the first time I heard that song was the day I read my first issue of the Invisibles. And it's always been sorta of the opening theme for the series in my mind.

You know, this thread has given me an idea. I'm going to make an Invisibles mixed CD. 23 songs. Some that influenced the Invisibles and some that were influences by the Invisibles. So suggestiong are wanted... Wonder if the CD's going to have any magickal properties.

Also, in the letters page (or maybe it was on grant's site) wasn't there someone that asked grant if it was ok if they named their band the Invisibes? I think he said it was cool as long as they sent him some stuff.... Can anyone track down any of their songs?

There was a hip-hop group of the name of "The Invisibles".
Can't say I caught any actual reference to the series in their music, though.
But my collection is rather small.
Also, if memory serves correct, Cassanda Complex did a song by the name "Theme To The Invisibles" or some such thing.

You're a bastard, Sypha. That 6 second high pitched wine at the start of Enter Horus gave me seizures and left me deaf! I hope you're happy. Nice piece though, once I regained my hearing of course.

Well, I'm not in a band and I'd like to know what bands have been influenced by the Invisibles but I have assembled some tunes that I thought echoed the series and act as nice compliments. An abridged list follows -

David Watts by the Kinks - Let's not put the cart before the horse and forget to recognize the musical precursors of the series. A fun tune that puts King Mob in a different light after you hear it.

Armageddon Days (Are Here Again) & The Beat(en) Generation both by The THE. Matt Johnson seems more prescient every day I listen to these songs. I wonder if his lyrics influenced GM at all.

A 21st Century Digital Boy by Bad Religion - the perfect description of adolescent life in the digital age.

Virus of the Mind by Heather Nova - Okay, this reference might get me flamed but any song about memes has to get some props.

We are all made of stars by Moby - Again, possible flame but this song seems to resonate with the end of the Invisibles as we all mature into the supercontext.

I also recommend the band Ladytron since their electronic beats and ghostly vocals make me visualize the hip, lost soul of the series.

Anybody have a few suggestions?

I'm not actually disagreeing with dlotemp's choices, but surely they illustrate the point that once you extend this beyond artistys who have acknowledged a direct influence by The Invisibles, the comic is such a multi-faceted one, and music being so easy to interpret in different ways, that there's no end of people one could list here...

Rizla wins briefest reply of the year award.

If any band should be called an Invisible band I'd argue Throbbing Gristle, what with their emphasis on magic, deconditioning, sexual experimentation, and now meme terrorism. Hell, the TG logo appears on Lord fanny and Jolly Roger's arms on cover nine of volume 3.

This one may be stretching it a bit also, but Doves' Satellites always reminds me of Barbelith when I listen to it. It seems to be the soundtrack of the last scenes of the book as Barbelith gets closer, and the new age is approaching.

What about Dr Octagon, didn't Morrison praise it as real voodoo rap?

I've been convinced since I first heard his music that Kenna, who has at long last released his debut album "New Sacred Cow," is writing the soundtrack for The Invisibles. The first image that came into my mind when listening to the first track, "Vexed and Glorious," is that it should be choreographed to a Busby Berkeley/Esther Williams-type tango dance number, except staged in an underground nightclub and the "dance," at least for the latter half, would be The Invisibles in a tight circle and mowing down shocktroopers, then at the end they spiral down a trapdoor in the middle of the floor like water down a drain.

His other songs also suggest Invisibles themes, like "War In Me," "Hell Bent," and a bunch of others I'm flaking on at the moment.

I also feel Del the Funkee Homosapien & Dan the Automator's "Deltron 3030" is especially Invisibles-appropriate. One track goes:

I wanna create a virus
To bring dire straits to your environment
Trash the corporations with a mild touch
Crash your whole computer network and reduce you to papyrus

Of course, Morrison himself said that Kula Shaker had been one of the primary musical influences, especially, I think, during Volume 2 (Books 4, 5 & 6), when King Mob himself is listening to it. But then, Morrison seems to be somewhat embarrassed by that admission nowadays.
