Ulty-Mates

well i bought ults and uxm finally, with a timely feeling of guilt. ults feels like progov propaganda from the forties. i expect millar to come out with a nice compromisey finale, wasp and gman back together, cap learning a lesson about the modern world and stuff. i don't expect the outcomes of those conclusions to be delivered with the same glee and breathlessness that he's been making everyone seem an arsehole with [bad sentence that, who cares there's a war on]. millar having done extreme left with the authority does extreme right with the ultimates. he only really likes to do extremes it seems. being a bit of a leftover lefty myself ultimates just makes me feel sick. the characters are in bad soap-opera situations with worse dialogue, preaching war and division. let the aliens win.

even in uxm government extremism is being excused by the further extremism of the terrorists. and the xmen are like these awful human-appeasers who should be looking for revenge on fury, not magneto. but millar has built up some good faith in me and i'll be back for more next month [or whenever].

as for nxmen this month 'every man and woman is a star' and not much more needs to be said. nice art and action, best in the biz.

and i've read some alias lately. didn't offend me that much but not a lot happens there does it? who remembers the eighties? bendis only writes about the personal, but my favourite comics are more concerned with the political. stories with belaboured dialogue about how its bad that kids get bullied for being different at school? what's so good and big in that, why the fuss?

anything else? oh yeah i really like the truth and best buy o' the week was probably the dark horse dredd v aliens thing. i love dredd when he's done right, but 2 quid a week for five pages plus what can only be called 'shit brit sci-fi'?

sorry about this thread i feel a bit listless at the moment. the protestors annoy me as much as the soldiers politicians and cnn correspondents today and i want to talk about superheroes because they're more realistic. somebody reply though otherwise i'll look a right twat. if n e 1 can dun-can can.

fruck! didn't even realise Ulties was oot.

See yon New XMen? Pure trash arthouse innit? Casual arthouse in fact. The cyclopean beam thru the windscreen and cement mixer fixer was 'Renegade' directed by run lola run guy. The menage a deux (plus 1) was Hollywood Wives shot by Jonze.

And the cukoos are irrational cos they've lost their wisdom. (sophie)

Or their teeth? - does this mean threy've grown up? This is bad I think. I got all my wisdom teeth extracted in a wunner when I was 17 (okay, compensation was CUT magazine with Brendan McCarthy interview) but it stunted my ******, as most of you know.

I've loved this storyline. An exercise in GM's gutteral style *between panels!) - Basically, we didae get the info we usually get in dramas as large as this.

The one panel of Beak in his suit was enough to convince me that GTM is on top form.

Look, sorry, can't keep this post together.......

this wasn't an xmen disc I konw, more general supe thing but.

I liked the missing kid story in Alias, but it's the 'interacting with Marvel characters' stuff I enjoy best; the current storyline ('The Underneath') is excellent. Daredevil is a wee bit political. And fucking ace - try the trades 'Underboss' and 'Out'.

Can't really be bothered with Ultimate X-Men.

Bit disappointed in Ultimates this time; not bad, but not of the standard I've grown accustomed to. Millar's 'Wanted' series that's coming out from Epic sounds more fit to the 'right bastard' superhuman mould than the Ultimates are; it'll probably cause certain board-members an aneurysm.

I hope.

In a metaphorical sense, obviously.

thass ma bois.

but who really didn't want to just see him pick him up twixt finger and thumb and twist his chinny head off like the stupid toy soldier he be? and when they get down with the skrulls i want to see fury's stupid badly dressed movie stereotype uncle tom field marshall eaten in half. and black widow's just a bitch. let the skrulls take over. as for stark what's more painful brain tumours or liver cirrhosis? whatever, that's the one i want him to die of. and we're at issue nine and thor's had about ten lines of dialogue. and why did he bring qwiksilver and the witch in if they aren't ever gonna be in it?

and bendis, yes its the little asides from the old marvel characters that make it all worthwhile. iron fist's a past-it alchy and everyone laughs at daredevil behind his back. 'i thought it would be spiderman' he says, but everyone else knew it would be him. and 'they always tell you their name...' is enough to have you back for more. but the bit where the missing kid is found in the city as an aspiring stand-up/poet? uh-uh, no way. and why are they so prudey about showing her when she rapes the guys? they're not very bashful about the language or violence.

in nxmen i'll avoid the speculations of the qobblers crew and say that if they have an abortion it'll prolly come back as an evil spirit and truly fuck them in ye olde gm stylee [could be a shame to have people then get on that as an anti-abortion rant tho], but they should just keep it and grow up and get that fourth circuit working like they need. and i think his face is getting smaller on purpose and emma said that swan thing and its getting me all confused.
