Ari Fleischer has confirmed reports of a dawn attack over Bagdad. Air strikes have begun and correspondants have reported anti-aircraft fire and distant explosions. No details of damage or targets.

So they start by targetting the city. It's done, the war has begun.

God help us all.

Bush is going to address the U.S. at 10:15 Eastern time. I'm concerned, but I'll probably out on South Park on the other tv. I mean...what could Bush say that we don't already know here?

Apparantly it was a 'target of opportunity' (ap reports from an unnamed source). A missile attack was launched against what is rumoured to be a possible sighting iof the Iraqi leadership.

Minutes after the first blasts occurred at 0530 local time (0230 GMT), President Bush's spokesman Ari Fleischer said: "The opening stages of the disarmament of the Iraqi regime have begun."

Is this the "lies" thread?

I was watching South Park, I must admit.

U.S. Appears to Start Broadcasting on Iraqi Radio

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The main frequency of Iraqi state radio appeared to be taken over by the U.S. military as U.S. planes began bombing Baghdad at dawn on Thursday.

"This is the day we have been waiting for," an announcer said in Arabic shortly after the normal Iraqi broadcast went off the air suddenly, within minutes of U.S air strikes starting.

The new announcer said Saddam Hussein's administration was under attack.
