New Morrison/Quitely Creator Owned Project

From today's Lying in the Gutters:

"F (Frank) Quitely is doing some kinda creator-owned thing with Morrison after this short story with me for '411' plus a quick thing for that moody Goth fella Neil Gaiman. Then he's doing a Marvel-owned mini with me and then back to Morrison for, I think, a whole year and another creator-owned thing. No idea what they're about. I'd kinda like him to do my Punisher story -- but only if they let us go Max and we out-Authority what we did on 'Authority.' I've got this opening scene with the Punisher dropping loads of shite on people and then torching it. All heroes should do this kind of stuff occasionally." - Mark Millar

Anyone heard anything about the Morrison project? It should be excellent, you really can't go wrong with Morrison and Quitely.

As interesting as it sounds (personally the Niel Gaiman and Morrison projects are what pique my interest most)... does this truly ential that Quitely is permenantly departing from New X? Perhaps I'm really behind in all the confirmations of such, but I wasn't aware that Quitely's leaving the book was anything more than a rumor...?

Help pls....

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure someone here posted that Quitely was no longer the artist on NXM officially. And in case you're wondering, the Gaiman project is the Destiny section of the Endless Nights hardcover that's coming out later this year.

Thanks Patrick, I appreciate it. What I wonder is whether or not the creator owned projects will be under Marvel or not, not that it really makes much difference... Just means that the forthcoming Epic line might be putting a few books under it that would definetly have my funds without question... Millar's yes, Morrison and Gaiman, who the hell knows.

Frank's not drawing any of the next year or so of New X-Men, but it would seem quite likely that he will draw Grant's final NXM story.

I'm still astounded at hwo you all know about this... where do you hear that he left? Why wouldn't Grant mention it at all...? Quesada?... Kickin' my ass.

Did FQ not say so himself in the Newsarama interview Flux posted?

Could be...

Duncan... I checked out the interview. He does not mention leaving the book, rather he simply says the his upcoming projects are creator owned works with Morrison. Now, as to whether he will continue with NXM concurrently, or return post-completion, or even not at all, is never mentioned. Mind you, I would place creedence on the second option, given that NXM has a line up of artists as of right now to take care of the next few arcs. Those being Jimenez, Bachalo, and Silvestri (who I believe is BACK to doing the title as opposed to some mini... seems that was all a mix up unless I've become confused here). Regradless, assuming that Silvestri completes 4 issues, and Bachalo and Jimenez do 3 each, that leaves us with 10 months minimum until Quitely would be needed. Plenty of time to work on other projects... then again this is Quitely, love him as we do...

Thoughts, my friend?

Whoaaaaaaa....wait a minute.

Since when has Chris Bachalo been involved with New X-Men? I keep tabs on this stuff, I read X-Fan and all of the comics news sites daily. Where did you see that, Mike O?

Jiminez was signed on to draw 8 issues of New X-Men in 2003, that's what he claimed in an interview.

You're right about Quitely though - no one has made any statement about him permanently leaving NXM, he's just not scheduled to draw any of the issues planned for the rest of the year. I think it is quite likely that he will come back on for a few more issues at the end of Grant's run, and might also do some covers here and there.

And Marc Silvestri is drawing four issues in the summer. I think it's 142-146.

Oh! I see! The Bachalo thing was announced today.

Sorry!

No problem, Flux... Man you are usually the one correcting me! So it's all good... but yeah, from what I read on a Top Cow interview over at Newsarama (I think?), it was mentioned that Silvestri's work on the title would be postponed until this fall, which would put it just after Bachalo's 4 issue run this summer.

As for Jimenez's 8 issues... yeah, my bad, I forgot that he mentioned he had signed on for 8 in 2003... though I guess the latter half will come after Silvestri, right? I was hoping we might see FQ up on NXM #150, but that don't look likely, huh? Either way, the lineup this year looks crazy!

Wasn't sure about the Newsyrama interview.

I'm sure there's a totally legit source for all this 'Frank's last issue' hyperbole.

Duncan, it may have also been the fact that he really DIDN'T say yes or no, either way. Sometimes ambiguity can lead ppl to assume the worst. Just a thought.
