anyone manage to get tickets to the secret MC5 gig at the 100 club last week?

interested if it was any good and if chuck d and bobby gillespie really did sing and jack white stood in on guitar

am i foolish to be dissapointed that when i called the venue (couple of months ago) i was told no tickets for sale to the public, record industry only and then heard that levis were sponsoring it and you might get tickets through their PR machine (didn't even bother trying)

i dunno, revolutionary geetar heroes playing for coked up industry tossers should be no surprise when even the fall are being used to sell stuff on tv i guess.

yes, desperately unhappy 'reformation' of the remains of a group whose legacy is best kept out of the hands of those they may well have referred to as 'the man' back in their heyday, and filling the void with jack white and bobby gillespie doesn't seem to really cut it, but i would have liked to have seen it anyhow, at least to hear their only 2 truly great songs played mental loud in a small club. but to a load of industry slags knocking back the free jack d and coke....nah.

shame really.

also had the stooges without iggy playing in london as the stooges last month, didn't go to that either.

Ooooh, right, I see, so it's like the Stooges show with Mascis, Watt etc?

Kind of half reformation, half tribute..

I guess in a way that's not so bad.

Hearing Bobby G. trying to do the righteous soul vocalisin' must have been morbidly funny.

For those that don't know, the whole thing was organised by Levis to promote their new range on account of there being an mc5 track in the ad.

Mighty... heroes... fallen... sell out... irony... sixties... dirty cash...

etc.

I read somewhere that they were thinking of doing a new album. And one of the members was quoted as saying of recent gig "we've always said we'd use whatever means nescessary to get a message across."

But I can't remember who it was.

What message would that be I wonder..

And god, a new album?? Man that's going to be bad.

I mean, not to diss the MC5 of old, but their two studio albums pretty much suck ass*, and they were recorded back when they were good (not to mention alive).

*for the most part. There's a few rockin' tracks on them, but otherwise massively disappointing considering the strength of the band's live stuff and demos etc.
