Right. So here's an idea. Much like the already happening Hook A Brother Up... thread, I propose a thread where people can put down what discs they're looking for. We're talking about shit you can't buy readily, on Amazon or whatever - stuff that's possibly OOP, or just impossibly rare. Then, y'all keep eyes out - if someone comes across one of the discs, send a PM or post here, and organise the swap/payment/whatever details. Or, if you can find it online using web-fu that ain't in evidence elsewhere, link that sucker up.

Y'dig?

Me first, then. I'm looking for a copy of Gaslight Radio's Hitch On The Leaves, which came out in 1998 and is now out of print. I think it was on Mushroom, but can't be sure. I can find a copy for $40, but am sure it'll be in a second-hand shop somewhere - or else someone here'll have a copy.

Also, I'd like to get Crow's Sunburnt Throats and Happy Thunderclouds - the first disc (I think) by the angular Sydney rawk outfit, which features "The Charley Horses", I think.

If anyone can help, by fuck I'll be a happy camper.

Any help?

If anybody can help me get a digital copy of Mary McCreary's Jezebel LP, I would go out of my way to make it worth their while. What I need basically is for someone to find the original vinyl (which usually runs for about $10 US) and digitize the record to MP3/CDR.

Good thread idea.

A copy of Lightning Bolt's "Ride the Sky" for a reasonable price would be most appreciated.

As would the Sonic Youth bootleg "Walls Have Ears" or their self-titled debut record.

And any early (ie, before the last couple of years) stuff from The Mountain Goats or Herman Dune.

I'll try and keep the names mentioned by you guys in mind when it comes to future record shop searching.

I'm after:

Michael Hurley. American folk singer. I'm after just one song, "The Werewolf", so anything with that on will do me. I'd prefer the studio recording rather than a live one.

Riz, I have those SY records, and that Lightning Bolt record is easily available on Soulseek - do you insist on having the packaging? I'd be happy to send you cd-r copies.

ooh, that would be really nice actually. I'll send you a PM.

I know the Lightning Bolt record is easily available in the US, but in the past I've ended up having to pay horrible amounts of P&P/tax when I've ordered stuff directly from America..

If anyone has access to a copy of the limited release ep thingy that Arab Strap just put out (the name is not coming to my mind right now), I'd love a CDR of it. I'd swap ya something, or send you a check to cover post, or whatever.

I might be able to get it from some place in america, but would prefer to buy it here.
Or even better, to find the mp3's

If anyone can get their hands on The Big Shot Chronicles, Tinker to Evers to Chance or, uh, Lolita Nation by Game Theory on CD I'd be really really happy.

Oh my. This could be beautiful.

I want:

(all 12" vinyl)

Musique - "In the bush"/"Keep on Jumpin" - the one with the pink cover
Aleph - "Fly to the moon"
Gazuzu - "Go go gorilla"
Acen - "Trip to the moon"
Yazz - "Stand up for your love rights" (beatmasters remix) - has to be the single, not a comp
Big L - "Devils son" (promo)
Klein and MBO - "Dirty talk"
Any D Train releases on Prelude records

That'll do for starters. I'll be hugely grateful if anyone spots any of these around. The musique and Klein and MBO ones are easy to find in the states, but the rest are all kind of obscure...

Oooh...for years I've been wanting Dorian Records' 'A Chance to Shine' compilation. I forget what year it's from - 97 or 98, I think? A burned copy would more than do, if we have any Swedes (or Swedish indie fans) around these parts who know what I'm talking about...

for some reason i cant find any Cobra Killer anywhere. even kazaa and soulseek generally draw a blank. and the digital hardcore website (which used to be really good) has turned into a alec empire site with about 3 words each for the other (and equally worthy) artists.

Thanks, Jake - I tried that, though, emailed back and forth a few times with him, but never got anything sorted out. Maybe I'll try again.

Cobra Killer's 2nd album The Third Armpit has an Australian release through Valve Records, and is pretty easy to find around these parts. You should be able to mailorder from the website, from the looks of things.

Oh yeah, and there's Cobra Killer's website, too.

Byron - if you haven't tried them already, I reckon you could pick up some of the disco tracks from Beat Street Records. Their site isn't exactly state of the art, but I've found some stuff on there that I never thought I'd see anywhere.

If anybody can find me semi-reasonably priced copies (on vinyl) of the following, I'd be tres pleased:

Banana Kru (Basement Jaxx) - 'My Name Iz Start' - White Label (2000)
Various - 'Panic In Detroit' - Buzz (1992)
Swell maps - 'Jane From Occupied Europe' ? Rough Trade (1980)
Various - 'No New York' - Antilles/Island (1979)

I would have put 'No New York' on my list too, except that it changes hands for absolutely obscene amounts of money and is actually, y'know, a 'much sought after collectors item' kinda thing..

Why it hasn't been re-issued I've got no idea.

The last time I saw a copy of No New York on sale it was going for about $50...I decided to mull it over for a bit, went back a half hour later having decided to shell out and it was gone. Gutted I was...I lost the taped copy I had of it a few years back, and have been on the lookout since.

Panic in Detroit can be pricey too, but I figured it was worth a try. Half the fun of digging through stacks of dusty vinyl is the possbility that there might be an unknown gem hidden in there...
