Captain America declares opposition to war

Well they're coming out of the goddman walls now! From the Tribune again:

"CAPTAIN AMERICA IN SHOCK ANTI-BUSH STANCE

Captain America, the super-soldier and sometime leader of the Avengers, has spoken out against President George W Bush’s plans for war on Iraq. In a press conference today, the noted patriotic icon, garbed in his usual red, white and blue, declared his opposition on the grounds that any attack or invasion would be based solely on economic and imperialistic motives rather than in the interests of national security.

“I have studied much classified information through my contacts in SHIELD, and can find evidence neither of Saddam Hussein's links to al-Qaeda, nor of his intentions to wield weapons of mass destruction. I simply cannot see how anyone can believe Saddam is in any position to attack the United States of America”, he said.

The Captain quickly pointed out that Saddam did indeed pose a threat to his own people, but that “any action in the pursuit of peace in Iraq and the Middle East as a whole should be a matter ultimately decided upon by the United Nations.”

This unexpected statement follows a great deal of speculation in the press as to Captain America’s personal stance on US defence and global policy, from which he has consistently shied. However, recent unsubstantiated reports have claimed that in private conversation he has expressed continued frustration with the Bush administration, and photographic evidence shows that he may even have attended last month’s unprecedented anti-war rally in New York City."

Shouldn't these things go in The Creation?

Dunno mate, haven't been in there. Is that for, like, finite works that don't necessarily require respons or discussion?

(I think they are OK here, I perceive them as intelligent exercises in perceiving the reality from the point of view inside the comics.)

I really hope Bush doesn’t take it against Cap the same way he is promising to “discipline” Mexico if they don’t vote in favor at the UN.

(And what would happen with the Ultimate Cap?)

Oh, Ultimate Cap's well out of it, he probably confuses Saddam with Stalin. Mind you, easily done with those moustaches, and he is pushing on a bit.

Noted human rights lawyer Matt Murdock has spoken out in favour of the Captain's stance, saying "prevention of abuses of human rights is one thing. But not at the expense of human lives, and anyway, who really believes that's what this is all about?" He admitted that he had himself attended the rally, but didn't see the Captain there. "What with being blind an' all", he added.

I really think we can do with just the one thread for these, perhaps called Woooooo, what would superheroes think of real world issues?. Or as Cameron says, move them to the Creation.

I got one. Hawksmoor says: 'That won't be happening on my planet, then.'

Hawksmoor was clear on some of his points, but some of his ideas were more… suggested between lines. He emerged from one of his teleportation pods, and sat to have a black coffee

This is a situation that wounds me as a US citizen…
I had a... "talk" with Bush the other day, he is aware of our position. The Authority won’t accept a direct intervention of a country that uses human rights as a pretext for oil. If they try to attack Iraq, we will stop them.

BUT

We do not accept either the situation in Iraq. Many people are dying of hunger. The world should review their politics against countries like Iraq and Cuba, and their dirigents (Hussein and Castro) should take the necessary steps for the betterment of their people.

His last comment to this reporter was

Remember, WE are the Authority, and we are going to make this a better world…

Whether you like it or not
