here's the thing, my boyf and I were working on a potentially brilliant project together, now we've split. This work remains unfinished while the love project is definitely kaput. He has asked if I'm going to finish what I started. and then piss off quietly - I am the pathetic rejected party in this set-up.
I really want to finish it, make it dazzling and end on a high note. I've invested a lot in this and think it would be shit if the finished thing was minus me. [As I'm writing this I can see I've already been written out and should accept my fate gracefully]

I don't normally approach strangers for this kind of advice but you seem like an open-minded, modern lot,
has anyone successfully negotiated this minefield?

Can't speak from experience here but historically, depending on how unpleasant the breakup was and the closeness needed to complete the project, some ex-couples have been able to work professionally. Could you give us some idea of the nature of the project and what is required to finish it?

I would suggest you complete your story with the minimum of involvement with him. Is he the artist? If so, how much work has he already done? Do you think he's still committed to the comic or has it died for him with the end of the relationship? If it has I suggest you do your best to complete the story regardless. Perhaps you could adapt it to prose, script or screenplay or could find a different artist? If he's not the artist then even as editor his involvement should be fairly small. Good luck.
