What band t-shirts do you own? (lightweight topic alert)

I figured this was too lightweight to be placed in the music forum, but if anyone disagrees, then by all means, move it.

Anyway, for no particularly good reason, what band t-shirts do you have? (it matters not whether they're home-made or "official") We can pretend this is a serious sociological study, if you like.

I'll start-

Ramones
Chicks On Speed
the Monkees
Atom & His Package
Pavement
Ok2Cry
the Melniks
Smudge

I may have more, but that's about all i can think of.

You realise this is what most of my wardrobe consists of?

Christ... about five different New Model Army ones
Nine Inch Nails
Tool
Sisters of Mercy (again, several designs)
Fields of the Nephilim (ditto)
Psychic TV/Temple ov Psychick Youth
Throbbing Gristle
Current 93
Ministry
Front 242
Revolting Cocks
Julian Cope
Atari Teenage Riot
Alec Empire (3)
Joy Division (2)
Gaye Bykers on Acid
Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction
The Waterboys
Manic Street Preachers
Faith No More
Motorhead
Nick Cave (2)
The Birthday Party
others too numerous to mention

But for the sake of honesty, I should add

(with embarrassment) All About Eve, The Mission

(and with abject shame) Death In June.

The Return Of Rothkoid
08:11 / 11.03.03
I've been weeding mine out - trying not to wear them, and going for plain instead.

But in my wardrobe I have:

U2 (Popmart tour)
Ben Harper (92 tour)
Dirty Three (post-Ocean Songs tour)
You Am I (from the Sound As Ever tour)
You Am I (from some shows they did after Hi-Fi Way came out.)
You Am I (circa Hourly, Daily)
Morrissey (this year)
Beastie Boys (a present from somewhere I used to work.)

and my favourite, that I will fit into again: a homemade Einstürzende Neubauten shirt.

I have a Salad t-shirt. Um... I nearly bought a Morrissey t-shirt after a gig last year, but my friend firmly tugged me away as she helps me not spend extraneous money. I have a Voldemort t-shirt as well, but that's not a band. So... one. Salad.

Unencumbered
08:16 / 11.03.03
I don't have many band t-shirts any more. Just one Ozzy Osbourne and two All About Eve, all very old and tatty. Much like me.

Quantum
09:36 / 11.03.03
Bob Dylan Hoody (2) & 'Integrity' Tee,
James Tee
Alabama 3 'the meek ain't gonna inherit shit' tee will be mine soon...

09:38 / 11.03.03
I used to have a Nine Inch Nails shirt, but my dad ended up with it and now it's disappeared. I have several Cure t-shirts, some of which I've bought at gigs and some of which another Cure fan friend bought for me. I don't really wear them anymore, except to the gym on occasion (back in the days when I ever left the fucking house).

Dances with Gophers
09:39 / 11.03.03
A couple of motorhead T shirts and ok I confess I have a printed Saxon T'shirt as well.
Not many but I still have the Denim Jacket covered in patches... hidden away in a dark recess somewhere.

Deva- Salad? Fuck! I thought I was the only person in the world who even remembered them! Okay, so they weren't that great. But "Diminished Clothes" is still something of a nostalgia trip.

ONLY NICE THINGS
10:03 / 11.03.03
I too have a Salad T-shirt. i don;'t tend to buy or wear band T-shirts, except when I go to realyl good gigs and get overexcited and intent on showing my love for the band through the medium of buying all their merchandise. That accounts for the Ladytron T-shirt and the Magnetic Fields T-shirt also. I used to have NIN and Oasis tour shirts from about 1993, when I was young in the ways of the world and Oasis were still good...I had a Pulp T-shirt saying "I'm common", but sadly it loked awful on me so I chucked it.

I think that's about it nowadays - since I tend not to wear T-shirts as outerwear, branded T-shirts are a bit pointless.

Ah - dude! Nearly forgot the indestructible Ned's Atomic Dustbin T-shirt. I got it mixed up in my laundry in the laundry room at college, and it has followed me around ever since, even though I don't recall having ever actually worn it...

The Return Of Rothkoid
10:13 / 11.03.03
It was the Kraftwerk fifty-dollar t-shirts that really confirmed my desire to not buy band shirts again...

yawn - thing's buddy

Queen: It's a kind of magic
SugarCubes on tour 1989

No star here laces
10:36 / 11.03.03
I have a problem with band t-shirts and therefore only wear ones that I get for free.

Hence: DMX - the great depression
Slayer - God hates us all

I've never even heard slayer, but enjoy the experience of wearing it to house clubs. The DMX one is just shameful and only ever worn under another t-shirt...

Having used the word "honesty" in my post, I feel it would be wrong for me not to mention the fact that I just found a Rosetta Stone T-shirt in my drawer. But if any of you mention it ever again, I keeeel you.

Band T-shirts are pretty much the only items of clothing I buy these days. As a friend said: "If only bands sold trousers, you'd never have to go to a stupid 'proper' clothes shop ever again".

Let's see now..

Ramones (classic design)
Sonic Youth (youth against fascism)
Sonic Youth (a design featuring some hippies drinking moonshine and a backprint of some naked people with 'one vote' written over them)
Cat On Form
Moonkat
And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead
Boredoms (or Voordoms, as the shirt has it)
Stereolab ('free witch and no bra queen' - supercool)
Clinic
Le Tigre
Deathcab For Cutie
Electrelane (although it's too small)
The Icarus Line
iDLEWiLD (phasing this one out due to band's newfound crap-ness)
and of course, Urusei Yatsura

Once upon a time, say around 1992 rock shirts were all I owned, mostly Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Screaming Trees, Nirvana, etc. I slowly got rid of them all over the years and now all I have are straight colour shirts, green and black.

BUT when in London I grabbed 2 $5 shirts outside the concerts, so I now have 1 Sonic Youth, and 1 Fleigh Festival (Pogues/Joe Strummer) t-shirt. I want more now.

Ethan Hawke
13:49 / 11.03.03
In my youth, i had (roughly in chronological order)
Cure T-shirt,
Sisters of Mercy T-shirt ( I swear, I was never goth! rilly! I'd make a horrible goth - there's absolutely nothing ethereal about me),
Ned's Atomic Dustbin T-Shirt
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Velvet Crush
Nirvana (x2)
Sonic Youth (x2)
Superchunk(It came with a cool robot sticker!)
Belle and Sebastian (mail-ordered this one,and it was far too small - never wore it. I think you have to have no torso to speak of to actually properly sport one, anyway)
Pavement (x2)

And um, I think that's it. The last time I bought a band t-shirt was during Pavement's last tour, and I've been to tons of gigs since then. I never wear any of these t-shirts any more (most are long since discarded), unless I need something for the gym. I can proudly say I've never bought a t-shirt for a defunct band (though I was this close to buying an Unknown Pleasures one (I'm NOT a GOTH!).

My girlfriend still occasionally wears a t-shirt from the first concert she ever went to, when she was 9 (1986) - Simple Minds. God, I hate that t-shirt.

Lotta explaining going on around here...

I used to have one of those 'I'm Common' shirts as well, good slogan, vile colours (green/orange-what was I thinking?).

Don't really do band t-shirts any more, the only one I've still got is a *vast* Sugar one, cover of 'Copper Blue', which is really comfy, worn in bed/when ill.

But wish I still had the knock-off Depeche Mode shirt that I used to wear constantly when I was 18. It was lurvley.... Black tee with big red 'Violator' rose on it.

(and not bands, but have a stack of crap art t-shirts pinched by a friend from the National Gallery shop. And one very cool Quentin Blake one.)

Oh, and lost my 'Candy Apple Grey' one at a festival years ago. *sob*

In my youth, a la Todd, there were Pulp, Nirvana, Bjork, Husker Du, Mercury Rev, Spritualised etc and a *huge* stack of Orb/Poppies/KLF t-shirts. Again, was pretty much all I worse at times...

Oh god, and probably have to admit to the Zooropa t-shirt, don't I?

NIN
Soundgarden
Dead Kennedys

(green/orange-what was I thinking?).

God, I'm getting visions of those shades of green and orange. There was, like, one year when someone thought they were a good combination (was it 1996?). In the future we will all be old and watching TV shows set in the 90s and going "No! No! No-one wore green and orange in 1997! Fools!"

Except me, because a bunch of people I met at the B7 con this year have vowed with me that we are going to buy & set up a B7-themed rest home for fans, so I will only ever watch episodes of Blake's 7 on the telly.

I have/had a bunch. Most of the ones I have were bought when I was a teenager. To the best of my memory, here's a list, out of chronological order:

Pavement (x4)
Jicks
Sonic Youth (x3)
Matador Records
Domino Records
Stereolab
Clinic
My Bloody Valentine
Guided By Voices
Blur
Pulp (sadly ruined... it was the cover of Different Class)
Radiohead
Wu-Tang Clan (Wu Wear sweatshirt)
Sleater-Kinney
U2
Fugazi (bootleg shirt)
R.E.M.
Pearl Jam
The Smashing Pumpkins
Velocity Girl
Belle & Sebastian

I'm sure there's some I'm forgetting. There's a few that I really wish that I had, from shows when I couldn't afford to buy merchandise, like when I saw Primal Scream and couldn't afford the PRMLSCRMMTHRFCKR shirt. Or the GBV t-shirt that simply said Guided By Voices on the front, and a lyric from "Psychic Pilot Clocks Out" on the back.

The only band tees that are still in rotation in my wardrobe are the Jicks, GBV, Clinic, Domino, My Bloody Valentine, and Stereolab shirts, but they are mostly worn underneath sweaters or while I'm lounging around the house/sleeping.

I went through a phase where I was like "band t-shirts are so...pedestrian" (or something), but I really wish I still had my Hole shirt from high school. Just for nostalgia's sake, mind you. The other one I had was a Red Hot Chili Peppers one, w/the Blood Sugar Sex Magik cover on it. This will reveal my age, but I was in 8th grade. And in high school I also had a Beck shirt, w/two turntables and a microphone on it. Lately I've been thinking, "band shirts, why not?" but I haven't bought any. Many bands I like don't have shirts, and plenty more do but not for chicks, and I can't wear those big baggy t-shirt shirts, cos I'm a picky bitch. :P

An Ikara Colt one that's black and has one of those white squares form their album on it and says "extreme close up: gesture" on it, and says ikara colt on the back, and a bright yellow Mogwqai one that has a row of dials n' stuff on it and the word Mogwai, oddly enough...

I used to have more but they've all fallen apart. RIght now I'm down to two Misfits, and one GG Allin shirt (still my favorite).

The Return Of Rothkoid

Weezer
Hanson Brothers
Alice Cooper
AC/DC (3/4 length sleeves)
Sepultura soccer shirt
Part of a Poison t-shirt I won at a headbanging contest that I use as a rag.
Not necessarily shirts, but I have an Iron Maiden patch on a denim jacket, Twisted Sister wristbands and an assortment of ska pins.

Not many:

Manic Street Preachers Motorcycle Emptiness
Manic Street Preachers Everything Must Go
Frank Zappa for President
The Clash
The Clash long-sleeved (compulsive collector but it's a different design honest)

Used to have three Maiden t-shirts, and I'm not killing anyone no matter how much they take the piss.

So tell me about this Rosetta Stone t-shirt, Stoatie. Heh heh ...

The closest thing I have to a band t-shirt these days is an Underground Resistance one that the nice people at Submerge sent me for ordering too many records. Going back nine or ten years, band (and skateboard company) t-shirts comprised about 90% of my wardrobe. Long gone and fondly remembered...

Sonic Youth
Ramones
Boredoms (X2)
Butthole Surfers
Big Black
Sebadoh (actually, I think I might still have this one somewhere)
Trumans Water
John Zorn's Naked City

grr. A good friend and ex is into Death in June. Source of much 'lively discussion' Though to be fair, he's not as into them so much as by association, being really into C93, Nurse With Wound, Antony and the Johnsons etc), but even so.... Yuck.

have custody his cds atm, so am looking forward to digging those out.
