Spring is here, the outdoor cooking apparatus is being dragged out of sheds in Haringey's back gardens. A friend was round today, we got a phone call from his Significant Other imbued with the dread words "Tell him the BBQ is ready in 10 minutes!!!"

At the first hint of mild weather it seems some people are keen to exercise their backwoodsman skills. Soon the air will be thick with paraffin and charred meat smoke and smells.

They were having chicken and monkfish on their grill, what's your favourite outdoor cooked food?

Vegetarian hot dogs. Same as my favourite indoor cooked food, now that I think about it.

Bah, the hell with the barbeque, the smoker produces the most delicious meat-treats. My dad will do this on special occasions, turkey, ribs, dear god it's amazing. As for the barbeque, there's nothing quite like a flank steak. And I have now made myself hungry.

Button mushrooms with red and green peppers, chicken optional. As long as there's mushrooms on the kebab I'm a happy gopher!

Beer is the only essential barbie ingredient. I'm assuming you're one of the Kiwis/Aussies who gravitate toward Haringey- I just left there and have many fond barbie memories- ah, the devastation..
