Correct me if I'm mistaken, but wasn't it supposed to be released last month? If it was, did anyone here read it?

I read it. It was dull, pointless and not even insulting or controversial. A real snoozer all around.

Read it in the shop. Almost made me wish those rumours that it was originally intended to be nasty and homophobic were true.

Read the first one. Regretted it (dull cliches, dull story). Didn't read the second.

Don't normally do this but....I read it in the comic store directly in front of the owner!

Luckly, the guy is a dear friend and he was just giving me enough rope to realize how trite and uninspiring it was. What the others said really. Fairly cliched gay stereotype humor.

Sypha - if you read it, let us know your opinion. You're the only gay person I know who reads comics, besides having a decent thoughtful opinion on comics.

I think I should say here, dlotemp, that the only comics I've ever read are "Sandman", "The Invisibles", "Transmet", and "The Filth". Well, those old Batman comics based on the animated series when I was a kid too.:P

Still, I plan on checking out more titles, including stuff by this Alan Moore guy whose name is mentioned so frequently on here...

Well, to be fair there aren't that many gay cowboys in Scotland. If he saw a black female gay cowboy his head would probably explode from the strangeness of it all.

well, wasn't it Miller who had that potentially homophobic comment we debated so much awhile back?

They had the second issue of Rawhide Kid at the local store (sadly they had'nt recieved Filth #9, grrrr) so I flipped through it, but I can't say I was impressed with what little I saw. The artwork and themes didn't do much for me at all. And I rolled my eyes when the title character had lines like "That's soooooo sweet". Granted, I've known gay people who talk like that, but not many. The whole thing just seemed silly and pointless I guess. I still think one could do a really subversive gay cowboy comic thing, maybe using William S. Burrough's "Place of Dead Roads" as a starting point, I dunno. I was hoping the first gay title character in a comic would have been a supergero or something, but looks like no dice. I just can't get excited over this concept I guess. *shrug*

FYI (useless comic trivia) - the first gay title character isn't the Rawhide Kid, that's just Marvel sales propoganda. Northstar, a gay superhero from Marvel's ALPHA FLIGHT, had a miniseries a few years ago. There are probably other earlier gay title characters but I don't recall them off hand.
