i'm looking for a web site where i can get free pictures i can use in my art. they need to be of a decent size, not thumbnails, and free to download, very free. i've done image searches on Google but come up with some boring stuff. i'm looking for somewhere with a few pictures all in one place.
thanks.

What sort of pictures are you looking for?

If anyone's knowledgeable, I'm looking for Victorian-era stuff - etchings and whatnot...

this site offers a reasonable collection of high res images.

this site - not the best resolution but very useful as you can search for pictures of specific plants and animals.

I used Andy Warhol, but no idea where from- looked on google, then enlarged them on photoshop and they were good enough not 2 b rubbish when i biggified them. My art teacher is obsessed with photoshop and i have no idea how to use it. xx

photoshop does take some time to get a real handle on it...been fudging with it since v.2 (prior to layers for all you designers) and still have quite a bit to learn. Take your time...

DeviantArt has a section of stock photos which- and check on this, because I'm not positive- are free to be used. Not always work safe.

Stumbled across www.lostlabor.com

LOST LABOR: Images of Vanished American Workers 1900-1980 is a selection of 155 photographs excerpted from a collection of more than 1100 company histories, pamphlets, and technical brochures documenting America's business and corporate industrial history This collection has been assembled over the last 20 years and many of the titles are rare and difficult to find. Since the images document factories, machinery, and jobs that no longer exist, LOST LABOR provides an unusual visual and historical record of work in 20th century America.

Might be useful, check the copyright at the bottom of the page as most of it is public domain but some bits aren't.
