Going to Calgary

In about 16 hours I'm flying to the frozen land of Calgary, Canada for a week.

Any cool things I should definitely check out while I'm there?

Other than the nearest outfitters for the proper clothes of course(first stop for this California boy).

Fuck. It's cold out there. Kiss your balls goodbye. If you have the reach for it, that is.

I wish

My fuckin' beard's gonna freeze off isn't it?

Your beard will be the only thing between you and death.

I'm suddenly remembering scenes from 'The Frost Giant's Daughter'.

The hell with outfitting yourself Lothar!
Go indoors and find a fire and sit by it.
That's all we Canadians spend our winters doing.
And watch out for the cowboys out there.
Ain't been to Calgary for many moons, so I don't know anything cool out there, apart from the weather (ah, predictable joke).
Come see us in Ontario next time. We'll keep you entertained. And it's not nearly as cold. And everyone in Ontario is beautiful. Except that one guy.

Zoom.

p.s. Sorry, I'll fuck off now. Feeling all feisty is all.

In a different thread Lothar has said:
quote:Oh well, I'm off to Calgary for a week. Maybe I can catch some 'Z's while I'm there.

Which is really quite ironic, because I'm in Calgary for awhile as well.

Would you like to hook up for a coffee or a beer or something Lothar?

Oh, and the weather has been reasonably nice in Calgary over the last few days. Today the sun is shining bright, and it is a wonderfully warm 12 degrees (Celsius) outside!

happy travels,
m3

You're on my list, Zoom.

Ahh, what're you gonna do? C'mon, I live in the highest per capita income city in Canada. The cops here'll drive up there and beat you to death if I ask them to.

Lothar (who's probably already in Calgary, but might get a chuckle out of this later), come visit me, dear. We'll keep that nasty Mr. Moriarty outside the city limits.

And moriarty, ooooh, moriarty. Beware the wrath of Zoom.

Zoom.

p.s. Waitaminnit, you thought I was talking about you? No no no, it was that other guy. Geez. You're a toasty muffin of manliness.

Damn. I didn't get access to Barbelith since my last post until today. That would have actually been a lot of fun.

How's your time in Calgary been?

Near the end of March I'll be in Tuscon for an anthropology conference, you won't happen to be in Tuscon, Arizona then will you?

I really dug Lake Louise and Banff but other than the people, Calgary was ugly. IMHO, a big cold nasty industrial city.

Not terribly cold while I was there, 8 degrees celcius on average with the lowest temp getting to about -15 which was a bit nippy.

I finally got to ice skate on a frozen lake. That was coooool.

from what I've seen, Canadian city planners reeeaaally dig concrete rectangles.

I think he was talking about the guy who runs the place. Or Wisdom of Idiots (which may be the maxim our Premier governs by). I walk around with a bag on my head, so I know it wasn't me.

Dear God, why Calgary?! That place is like the Texas of Canada.

Well Lothar, it is too bad that we didn't get a chance to hook up. It woulda' been kinda' neat (from my perspective) to meet someone from the 'Lith IRL.

My time in Calgary has been generally good, but, like life, it has had its ups and downs!

Say, you didn't happen to go check out the midnight showing of "A Clockwork Orange" at the Uptown did ya'?

Yeah, it is a neat feeling to be ice-skating on an actual body of frozen water, eh?

Sadly (or happily depending on one's perspective) I am not stalking you presciently, so I've no plans to be in Tucson. Besides, I am hesitant to travel to the USA at all, but that is another story entirely!

Unfortunately I was in the Southwest suburbs and with two kids, didn't have the opportunity to see any movies.

Been a long time since I've seen 'A Clockwork Orange' on the big screen though, that would've been nice.

As for the US, you gotta come to California. Between the two of us PATricky and I can show you all sorts of cool stuff. From wild parties to beautiful Redwood forests.

After coming back from Calgary, I'm reminded how close my area is to paradise.

You'll have to come up to Northern California to see Redwoods but it's worth the trip. Lots to see and do up here.

San Diego's nice too. It was my home town. I hate going back now (that whole 'you can never go home again' thing) but it's still the only place in Southern California that's worth living in.

The Pacific Beach and Mission Beach neighborhoods are fun places to party, go to the beach, watch a sunset, etc.

Imperial Beach is anything but. Stay away.
