Marilyn Manson about to murder Cab Calloway?

Yes. Apparently, on his next album, coming out soon, Mr. Manson intends to have a pastiche of Cab Calloway. Now, Cab Calloway was undeniably the coolest person who has ever lived, and this announcement from Marilyn Manson troubles me alot. Can anyone calm or tense my fears?

After hearing him butcherize the M*A*S*H* theme song his works have been banned from my ears. Poor Ol' Cab...

On the bright side: No one pays attention to Marilyn Manson anymore, so him killing Cab Calloway is the equivalent of hearing some bad local band do some covers... I hope.

A "pastiche" you say?

As in, "yeah, we're not even gonna bother to do a proper cover version, we're just gonna take the piss a bit".

Those crazy kids.

You know I kinda actually like Mr. Manson. No really.

I think his big glam-rock singles are kinda fun.

Basically shoddy shock-rock, and he's not half as big or clever as he thinks he is, but I think he's basically still preferable to much of what passes for "mainstream rock"..

Mechanical Animals is quite good, and he talks the talk of much sense in Bowling for Columbine but between that and the godawful cover of Tainted Love he doesn't really matter that much any more.

I thought this was going to be like a 'Brass Eye' thread. Cab Calloway's already dead though, eh?

Oh, come on. Calloway's cool, but I don't think the chain-swingin', high-steppin' man that he was would've been worried by a bit of pisstaking. He was in The Blues Brothers in what amounted to a bit of a masturbatory dream sequence, right?

Ahem.

But Manson? Manson good. Like many bands, he writes for The Disenfranchised Teens In Arsehole, VA, or wherever else, and good luck to him; he's big and dark and evil, yeah, but in a FUN way. Which is, of course, the point to big, dark and evil music, unless you're Oxbow. He's also GLAM AS FUCK, which is invariably a good thing: Mechanical Animals is the best Bowie album of the past couple of years. I like to think of him as Alice Cooper, but without the antacid ads.

Yet.
