Intro or extro?

vert.
driven to distraction by the semi-internal dialogue extroverts tend to conduct. Introverts don't outwardly complain, instead roll their eyes and silently curse the darkness.

Made me smile. So which are you? I suspect geeky internet stuff is a haven for introverts.

Aww come on how am I meant to know which one I am without a list of multiple choice questions and radio buttons?

In the future all our decisions will be made by selecting radio buttons.

Introvert though that's me.

Introverted Extrovert. No kidding! I am quite shy when it comes to new situations and meeting new people with whome I have no readily understandable line of connection. However, once I have a handle on where I stand, what the group/person is about and I am feeling more comfortable, you have to hold me back with wild horses!

Confounds most people who know me! Whatcha gonna do, hey!

At last a misunderstood minority finds a voice!
I'm a classic introvert except when I'm unhappy, when I need the psychic white noise of other people's presence at all times to keep the deeeemonnnsss away ...

I totally suspect that introverts make up a majority on Barbelith/general internet type stuff though.

Introverted as fuck to a quite unhealthy degree.

Except for when the rock n roll is playing and I've been drinking.

Do you think being introverted is a good thing? Do you like introverts/extroverts?

I think compared to you guys I'm an extrovert, but compared to most other people I know I'm an intro.

I'm an introvert, but a loud one. Apparently, I do the socialisation thing quite well, but spend most of the time doing it terrified.

An egomaniac with an inferiority complex . I'm able to behave in an uninhibited/extrovert way, but I don't feel like a natural extrovert . I feel out of place socially at the best of times, so it's no extra embarrasment/discomfort to freak out, perform, etc.

Ninja Extrovert. Did you know introversion and extroversion (according to Psychologist Hans Eysenck who invented the scale of intro/extro) has a physical cause? The Ascending Reticular Activating System in the brain is like an amplifier, strengthening the nerve signals to the appropriate level. If the signals are boosted a lot a person is easily overwhelmed and becomes introverted, avoiding excessive stimulation. If the signal is not boosted enough the person seeks out extra stimulation, becoming an Extrovert.
Of course common usage has changed what we mean by intro/extro, but it's an interesting trivia fact to know. Maybe not that interesting...

Sounds pretty dubious to me.

I don't think introversion has much to do with "avoiding excessive stimulation"..

Both. depends on what mood I'm in. Sometimes I get lonely and sometimes other people totally do my head in. Pretty much most of my personal psychology swings from one extreme to the other. Just the way the devil made me I suppose.

What's with all the binary choices around here? Either/or, yes/no, blah blah blah.

I choose MAYBE!

I think I'm a deluded extrovert. I have alot of baggage from being terribly introverted as a youth, which I tene to believe still applies, whereas it really doesn't, as I'm loud, always into meeting people (except when depressed, and who fancies it then?), like to be out and about etc..

I would barely speak to anyone until I was about eighteen. Now I am loquacious as hell, but I roll my eyes and quietly mutter to myself ocassionally,...gawd! I wish you would just shut up!

...and I do.

Uhm...both?

Oh, I'm a bit of both I guess. I like the company of other people but can't spend a day without having at least three hours of alone time. I hate overcrowding in my home but love walking through London because of the anonymity of the place. Breakfast - I'm with Sartre, catch me within an hour of waking up and I'm liable to scream swear words in to your face, particularly if you're cheerful. When I first meet people I talk very little, once I'm comfortable in a group I chatter incessantly.

Mike Myers was asked 'In the Actors Studio' which he was and he said he was introverted, but that when the need arose he could become extrovert but it was limited, he said he was a 'site-specific extrovert', and good Robin Williams (as opposed to the bad Robin Williams that made 'Bicentennial Man' and 'Jack') agreed to this to some extent.

I'm very introverted and shy. However, in terms of 'sites' where I feel at ease, amongst friends, at work, with my family, I can become extrovert, though sustaining it is hard work.

I think the intro-extro thing has been headshopped on several occasions, might be worth having a dig through some of that stuff.

depending on the scenario, I prefer being extrovert but often I'm with people I'm not completely comfortable with so I'm introverted. Was thinking about my sister the other day, she's quieter than me, and thinking that perhaps it's not her, but the rest of the world that is too loud. I kind've think that introverts have been born into worlds that are just too bloody noisy!
