I just loved it. Mike Allred was so cute and sweet and enthusiastic. I liked the stories they told about people's crazy houses, like a castle with secret passages and a prison compound--I think that was for Pen and Teller. I'm not sure.
While it was cool hearing about the comic book stuff, my collection consists of about 8 or 9 comic books, all of which were gifts. What I most got out of the interview, though, was inspiration to keep on with the poetry. I still love reading it and everything, but I'd become really discouraged about creating it. Putting so much work into something that most of the world greets with indifference or annoyance had really broken me down recently, but a lot of the world treats comics in a similar way, so I let good vibeyness of Mike Allred seep in! I was possessed by a holy spirit.
I also really love the casual tone of The Best Show and that interview. Mike's wife came home and was locked out; she had to bang on the door; Mike had a hard time getting the door open; the dogs were barking; "My wife bought a new car today;" "I'm on the radio everybody! I'm on the radio!" Everything was so endearing.
Flux is right about Wurster, too. Though we missed an appearance from my favorite funny man. |
