In order to avoid the first n threads in the Conversation being birthday wishes to individual Abrbeloids, could we direct further wellwishing to the great big birthday hugglefest, here? Joint parties are much more fun...

Mmm. I'd disagree.

I think it's maybe more special/respectful to have individual threads, these are individual people.

Indeed. There are currently 1823 members of Barbelith, of whom maybe 200 are involved sufficiently to have a footprint. If every one of those gets their own birthday thread, we have 200 birthday threads. The current spate of birthday threads sees one still active after 5 days. So, assuming one birthday thread ever 2 days, which seems a credible number, we have 7 birthday threads created in the time that it takes for 3 birthday threads to expire. Meanwhile, because Barbeloids are basically kind people and do not want anybody to feel left out, the threads are kept alive by well-wishing. Dozens of special, individual threads, each one containing identical messages, fill the front page. Thankfully, the monotony is broken up by all the special individual new members posting to tell us all about themselves, each with their own thread.

As such, I would humbly suggest that people may wish to huggle together and enjoy a single thread of birthday goodness, in the interests of altruism, is all. Which I believe was Ganesh's intention in setting up the "happy birthday whoever's birthday it is today" thread, which it would be a shame to neglect.

It's Jack's thread, I'm sure he'd approve.

Only joking, Fear, you huggable great grumpy grizzly of a man!

And remember to show your working!

Um Happy Birthday to everyone, maybe we should all have the same birthday, you know have 2 like the Queen that way we can just celebrate everyone's Barbelith birthday in the same thread.

Thanks for reminding me, when I was trying to ignore it entirely. Bastards.

Seriously—the sentiment is much appreciated, but on a practical level I must agree with die Meistersinger von Venusberg: this sort of thing is better handled in group threads, or by private message or e-mail.

I love you all. Now shut up and leave me alone.
