Foundry, Thursday 6th March, more live anarchic noise

Following our last visit to the Foundry, we've actually been asked back, so this time I've formalised our blurb a bit. Sorry for it looking a bit spammy, but I'm only posting it here 'cos I love you all so much. As per last time, we're putting on a couple of "open mic" live sets, so any musicians or wannabe musicians out there who want to make a bit of noise are especially welcome! Cheers, ii.

iivix presents I Could Do Better Than That @ The Foundry, Thursday 6th March. £Free.

Following the success of our first experimental gig at the Foundry in January, I Could Do Better Than That is back, bringing you more anarchic and arty music. As per usual, we'll be putting on two very special I Could Better Than That live sets, and we're encouraging anyone who wants to make a noise to join in. The rules are as follows:

1) The live sets will be exactly 23 minutes long
2) Only two people can play at a time
3) If at any time you make a noise, just come up, swap with someone and go for it
4) No beer near the keyboards!

So if you fancy a little anarchic impromptu improv in front of a friendly audience, come along and join in! We'll be providing an old analogue monophonic synth, six string electric guitar, and a laptop running rebirth. If you want to play anything-else, bring it along and we'll plug it in. If no-one comes up, your hosts iivix and Hooray threaten to play all night- and they made a right racket last time.

Between sets iivix and Hooray will be playing post-rock, electronica, leftfield pop, soundtracks, and noise.

We're planning on exploiting the Foundry's streaming audio facilities, which means that with a bit of luck the nights entertainment will be broadcast on the net...

It's free to get in all night, and the beer is (relatively) cheap.

I look forward to seeing you all,
Love, ii. xxxxx

I hasten to add that your hosts will be DJing between sets, rather than attempting to play instruments.

Will there be a drum kit? I'll come if there's a drum kit.

That does sound pretty cool actually. And you know we all love the Foundry. But I have a very important interview the following morning... don't think I'm going to be able to take the risk

I don't think that there's room for a drum kit... Plenty of stuff to bang on though.

I've just remembered that there is also an old organ which we can use. It scares me a bit though, all those drawbars and stuff.

This is a great sounding thing. Like the old Kosmiche nights of "play
along".
If you ever need to borrow haunted old synths for which seem to enjoy
being activated by random strangers, you must let me know.

Anyone going along to Kling Klang this weekend? Best motorik since
back in the day!

I don't know how I missed this thread before, but this sounds like an absolutely awesome idea!

Let us now when the next one is.

So how did it go???

Let's be honest here: It was a drunken noisy mess of random people mutilating melodies with our instruments (a strange raw synthpop-punk sound), miss-cued CDs and tunes that made little sense when played back to back, random piercing high pitch harmonics that made everyone in the audience take for cover, and an array of bizarre bingo caller style shout-outs by my cockney co-host.

So in other words, another success! Hurrah!

I'm putting together our website asap, where you'll be able to view pics of some of the people playing, and download the four live sets we've done so far as MP3s. www.icoulddobetterthanthat.co.uk coming soon.

The next night should be a Thursday night in May, back at the Foundry. Free lollypops for everyone who tries their hand at playing live! And if any of you tunesmiths have recorded your creations to minidisk or CD, and want to hear them played, bring them along on the night and we'll chuck them into the DJ sets.

love, ii. xxxx.
