50 Cent - 'In Da Club'

God, I really wanted to dislike 50 Cent, and I kind of still do. I remember from back in the day when he did that so-so novelty record 'How To Rob...' with the Madd Rapper (shittest novelty rapper ever, arguably), and while it was medium cool for someone to start their career by offering *everyone* in hip-hop outside, by name, like all novelty records it got old pretty quick. Anyway, point being, 50 Cent can't actually rap, like, at all well. God only knows what Eminem sees in him, but...

BUT. 'In Da Club' is stupidly good. Literally. It's custom-made to do exactly what it says on the tin, ie it's a club track, a banger, possibly the ultimate club banger. It sounds totally familiar and a bit like a lot of other club tracks - but that's cos it's one of those songs that just sounds like somebody somewhere should have thought of it already. It doesn't matter at all what he's saying in the verses, it's not that sort of hip-hop record. It's all about the "bamp-bamp!" bit in the beat, and the stupid-grin-inducing chorus.

"I'm into having sex, not making love", indeed. ODB would be proud.

I don't really have much to say about this other than that I think it's ace - keep hearing it on the radio and it's got into my brain. Agree with you about the beat being what makes it - I usually find that more interesting than the words anyway, so though I don't know enough about it to be able to tell whether he's any good as a rapper or not, that's why I like it. Makes me smile.
