That's a few miles away from my house. A thick stream of pitch black smoke has covered the sun, emerging from a single spot on the ground.

Update:

The barge has sunk. The barge was on fire, caused by the explosion. It sank. That is the primary fires. There might be secondary fires but I can't confirm that at the moment.

There were some youth activities nearby and the people there were evacuated. To an ice rink and to some other location.

Also there were half a dozen families evacuated too.

An oil refinery? Staten Island? If there's anything conspiratorial about it, I bet those "Middle Eastern" looking guys are actually Italian. Though there are several "secret" submarine bases around NY harbor. Of course, these guys were probably running for their lives from a huge fucking fire.

Man, he needs to check up on his hearing. Not BASE coats but BEIGE coats. Also the person seen running through the woods was the person from the first description (i.e. six foot tall white male with blue sweatpants, bandana, and chains around neck). He was seen running through the woods but they figure he was just running away from the fire. Anyway I haven't listened to the scanner in the past oh 15 or so hours but those are the corrections to Lionheart's posts which I will post. Anyway, it's been said elsewhere here that it's probably an accident and it's been said by police I believe that it's believed by them to be an accident, and well personally I also believe this to be an accident.

Yup. The fire burnt itself out within a few hours with help from the firefighting crews. I'm from a town that has lots of refineries and tank farms. This kind of thing happens every so often. It looks like the fire had taken out only that one group of tanks. Spectacular, though. I saw it on CNN a few minutes after it started. Eerie longshot from across Manhattan, looking like you know what.
