Bono nominated for Nobel Peace Prize?
OSLO - The former governor of the American state of Illinois George Ryan, who spared all death row inmates, Pope John Paul and Irish rock star Bono are among a near-record 150 nominees for this year's Nobel Peace Prize.
Mr Stein Toennesson, the director of the Peace Research Institute, Oslo, said chief United Nations weapons inspector Hans Blix and Mohamed El-Baradei, head of the UN nuclear watchdog, will be favourites if they help avert war in Iraq.
People and organisations whose names have been made public elsewhere include the European Union, Chinese dissident Wei Jingsheng and Cuba's leading dissident Oswaldo Paya.
Bono? Umm.... I don't know if that's a good thing or a very bad thing. |
