Clone High: Hunger Strike? SAY WHAAAAAT?

So we've got the funniest new animated series since Futurama on MTV of all places and, well, it's all about clones of famous people growing up in a government controlled high school. The main characters are Abe Lincoln, Joan of Arc, JFK, Cleopatra, and Ghandi (anyone sensing the deliciously grisly connection?. It's that last one that's caused some citizens of India to go on a hunger strike, not having actually seen the show, but figuring that this depiction of Ghandi as an ADD addled teenager whose catchphrase is an indelible "SAY WHAAAAAT?" (but, granted, most reports about the strike intimate that they haven't even gotten this in depth with the show) was some serious desecration.

Anyone else seen it? It's actually pretty brilliant for the way (among other things) that it portrays each clone's struggle to come to grips with their predestined potential. They each live with wackily mismatched foster parents (G-Man's, for example, are practicing Jews) and each week they learn a little something about life (in another "Very Special" episode). So, yeah, it's pretty much my favorite new show and showing all the time on MTV.

But here's the weird part, post-hunger strike, you can no longer access any info on the show on mtv.com.

Weiiiiiiird....

"Did you SEE the pool? They flipped the bitch!"

I love this show and Ghandi is my favorite. I hope they don't cancel it do to this hunger strike. And you said it, Ben, the coolest thing is them trying to live up to these impossible legends while growing up in modern day USA. Like Abe's preoccupation with honesty (especially when it comes to Joan) and Ghandi's tight rope act between selflessly helping others and having fun.

Plus, the guy who invented the show is from Miami!!!

Threadcromancy!

I just got the DVDs from Zip.ca (the Canadian version of Netflix) and I freaking LOVE it... Degrassi-calibre drama mixed with some surprisingly intelligent historical humour. I have no idea if the hunger strike is what caused this to be cancelled after just one season, but man, I wish they'd made more. I just watched part one of the season finale and nearly busted a gut at some parts of it.

On a very special episode of Clone High....

Such a funny show. So infinitely quotable.

What a fantastic show! I saw it when it first came out, and then just a few months ago a friend sent me a DVD with all of the episodes. I think the best one might be the rock opera about smoking raisins!

Under the shirt, over the bra?! Abe

"When life gives you lemons, clone those lemons! And make SUPER LEMONS!"

...is probably my favourite line from the show.

So much good stuff, and my favourite guest appearances ever -- the only times, in fact, that I've liked either Marilyn Manson or Tom Green have been on Clone High.

I thought I was the only one who ever watched this show. I feel a little less alone now.

Kali: It became regular quotation material among me and my friends for months to the point of obnoxiousness. Such a good show.

If you liked it, did you ever visit this place? It has extras and deleted scenes and I can't remember if they ended up on the DVD set or not, so here they are.

...okay just one quote that we started to interject into any moment of silence:

"So...religion's for fools, eh? Fools and liberals!"

Holy crap. There's a Scudworth outtake there that is the funniest thing I've ever seen. STILL.

"Son a freaking BITCH! MOTHERFUCKER!"

I have to order those DVDs, by the way. So happy to see my thread revived.

"The numbers never lie!"

Clone High is actually one of my favorite TV shows of all time.

Still hoping for a second season...

Oh, and Gandhi rules, by the way.
