Peace Mango Protest Moxie

So... I was considering putting this onto one of the Peace Mango threads, but the most recent one seemed to be more about the philosophy of the Transducer and the initial one was it's intro and all that... Anyway.

Nothing fancy. I just wanted to maybe paste the mango symbol and parade it around Devon and Leavit during Chicago's protest on the 15th. Thing is, I'm leaning between two sign options. One is "We have Always Been At War With Oceania", which I like more- but I'm not sure if it'll translate well... Maybe I'm being presumptious of my fellow Americans, but still..

The other one I'm leaning toward is something blatantly agressive and negative. "Bush is a terrorist".

Now, my worry is if I place the Peace Mango sigil on this particular sign that perhaps associating it with such a negative construct (as truth based as it may be) may overload the working, and at worst corrupt the sigil. Now granted, the point is for the Peace Mango to absorb negative energy and transform it into positive- but what happens if you deliberately and perhaps mischeiviously invite that negative enrgy upon it?

Ack, sorry if I ramble- but tis late. Obviously the protest is in a couple days, so prompt responses/guesses/advice are/is appreciated. Thanks.

So the concern involves being unsure about what will happen when you introduce a source of *negative energy* to the Transducer/Peace Mango?

I think the only way to ever get round these recurrent hang-ups about the peace mango's functionality, is to put it through a series of controlled tests involving small scale domestic situations. Otherwise there's just going to be a perpetual round of speculation over whether actively feeding it 'negativity' as a food source could have unanticipated and unwlecome side effects.

The only way to learn anything about the Peace Mango is through interacting with it and observing the results, so if you have any misgivings or suspicions about aspects of its functioning, then the logical way forward would be a series of workings to help you make an accurate assessment of how it behaves. If your suspicions are confirmed, then you can devise some method of correcting the faulty programming. Try feeding it the negativity of, say, your boss at work - and see what results you get before trying to apply the same process to a global situation.

Could you make a constructivist/art deco logo out of the peace mango sigil? Cuz if it was a little offical-looking logo, it'd go with the 1984 slogan well.

I don't have anything fancier than MS Paint, and I wouldn't know what to do with it if I did, but how's this for a rough?

Maybe add some wavy lines, change some sizes, that sort of thing.

can't find a good example.

Odd that it only jumps out as, "Oh, right, a 1984 quote" if you say it wrong. Cuz it's Oceania that has always been at war with Eurasia/Eastasia, but those don't have right associations.

heh. grant that is very nice. I may just steal that.

reflect/exp: My concern isn't that, persay, as I know that's what the servitor was designed for. I guess I was more wondering if placing the Mango in a position where it is actively hated as opposed to passively picking up bad vibes would have an adverse effect. As I would place connect the sigil in a blatantly confrontational slogan for the purpose of raising ire, and people would then end up directing their hate towards this. My, (perhaps vain, as the media here is pretty much ignoring the current protest movement) hope is that the controversial slogan of "Bush is a terrorist" would get the sign on television and then have a whole slew of viewers surretitiously charge the Mango. The problem I was worried about was if by getting it that much exposure, people's head would associate that symbol with the meme "Bush is a terrorist", and permanently associate that negative vibe with the Mango whenever I pepper it around town in flyers or the like. Hence, it would always remain a negative reminder- which is perhaps against the point of the Mango. Did that make sense or am I just babbling again? The more I look at what i wrote, the more I think I'm just thinking in circles.

And I didn't mean to spark off another Mango debate as in the other thread. My main worry I think was an anxiety stemmed from a lack of experience working with servitors, so I wasn't certain on how best to go ahead.

Whether you involve the Transducer or not: that particular slogan is likely to polarise anyone who looks at it. It is likely to be dismissed out of hand by anyone unsympathetic.

yeah, it is terribly polarising. That's the effect I was going for, but upon consideration it's obviously not the best option for chraging ze Transducer. Maybe too much fishing for negative energy. I think the subtle approach is definitely more appropriate, hence the Oceania bit.

Hm. I'm going with a similar idea. I'm resurrecting the Chaos Goat, which last saw action in '91, in a demo supporting the National Endowment For the Arts against Bush I and Republican Senator Jesse Helms. There aren't any photos, but it basically looked like this:

- Life-sized goat's head, made of papier-mache on a chicken-wire frame. Extras: Peppermint-striped horns and a third eye
- Body was a placard bearing a large red I Ching Hexagram 59 (Wind over Water), more or less meaning chaos rising through the cracks of the New World Order
- Two upper arms each waving a flag. I think the left was a black anarchy flag, while the right one was a pirate flag
- Two middle arms each holding a cardboard saber
- Two legs

The whole thing was about 6 feet tall and tied to a pole.

It wasn't charged or anything--it owed more to Hunter S. Thompson than Austin Osman Spare--but seemed to work. It was supposed to draw its strength from its own existence. I guess it worked. The NEA survived, more or less, and the Republican party got stomped the next year.

It was the Year of the Goat then and it is now. For now he'll just make guest appearances on various banners.

Um... It's the Year of the Ram now, isn't it?

You know, I really like the slogan "No Blood For Oil!" that's been going around. It's straight forward and honest. I think something like that would work best with the Mango.

"No Mangos for Oil"?

Ram, Goat, Sheep... if I'm not mistaken, these are interchangeable in the Chinese zodiac. I prefer to say that I was born in the Year of the Goat, myself. It sounds so bad to say that one is a Sheep.
