Dirty Three Tour Dates

The Return Of Rothkoid
21:04 / 12.02.03
There's more US dates to come. But Dirty Three take to the road VERY soon, in support of She Has No Strings Apollo. I'm already ticketed for the two nights at The Metro. Who else is up? A week after my birthday, too...

The tour DVD (directed by the guy who did Dutch Harbour) should be out later this year. What do people think of the new disc?

Wot no ATL? Damn. Let's hope.

Disc ain't out here yet - next week. I'm sure a perusal of Slsk would turn it up, but that service is a bit of a pain in my tits and I'd rather wait, anyway.

The Return Of Rothkoid
03:57 / 13.02.03
There's more dates to be added - fear not, young 'drome.

[threadrot] What happened to your domain? It's gone! [/threadrot]

My review of the disc (and interview with Warren Ellis) should be online soon, but I like it a lot - as if you couldn't tell. The last track is like a duel between Melancholy Dirty Three and some kind of Porno Guitar Monster. Which, invariably, rocks. There's a lot more of a propulsive feel on these tracks than on others, that's for sure.

Holy shit!

You should move to Leicester, Roth.. all your favourite bands seem to play here completely unexpectedly in unusual places..

It seems like it. I'm envious. Go forth and enjoy, Riz.

I'm hoping that I'll have some pictures of their first Metro gig. I should be getting a photo-pass for that one, and am gonna snap like a motherfucker. Friday night will be Legless Band-Watching Night, methinks.

There exists a possibility that I may be at the Metro show as well, Rothkoid. It depends on getting a ride and working it into my schedule, but I should very much like to see Dirty Three. Very much indeed.

Oh-ho-ho... The Australian Metro. I see now. Too many Metros. I was speaking of Chicago. Sorry.

Woo! I got my ticket yesterday! I've still not actually heard the band yet, so they better rock! (well, with Warren Ellis and Rothkoid's endorsement, how can they not?)

Bump. Coming soon. Am excited. And to whet appetites further, read my interview. I'm pretty pleased with it. The pix come from a gig in Brighton last year.

My God that ROCKED. I am at a loss for words other than I Need To Download ALL Of Their Stuff. Now. And get my Violin out FIRST THING TOMORROW. Wow.

The song intros were the best. Here's one paraphrased:

"This one's about a car....it's about filling your car with petrol...which has gotten cheaper lately, oddly enough....it's about filling your car with petrol using someone else's credit card....it's about renting the most expensive car the....rental...place has and driving as far away as you can 'cause anywhere is better than here...and driving until you run out of petrol and you take your bottle of water and walk until the bottle is empty and you collapse in a heap. This song is called 1000 miles."

Sadly, that page doesn't have my favourite Warren Ellis into (from a gig in Camden a couple of years ago) - I'm paraphrasing a bit here:

"This song is about when you're getting ready to go out on the town... And you put on your suit, your favourite suit, the one you know makes you look really fucking cool, and you go the club, and you have a few drinks, and you meet someone special, and you're dancing, and there's this mirrorball on the ceiling, spinning and spinning. And then you realise... that all this stuff you're seeing is just the patterns in your mug of cocoa spinning as you stir it... and you're actually just sitting there in your kitchen on your own, in your old dressing gown with your mug of cocoa... and as you're sitting there you think to yourself: I Really Should Have Gone Out Last Night."

There's a moral to that one, too.
