Is soulseek dead?

or only sleeping? or did I miss another updating of their software?

Matthew Fluxington
14:38 / 12.02.03
No. It's not dead. It's just changing servers.

This is the official announcement from Soulseek.

Thanks, Flux!

Just so everyone knows, Soulseek is back online.

Good.

It seems to be on the blink again.

No problems with it here.
On another note, any one know why its possible to slip down in the waiting lists?

The Falcon

It's fine now.

Speaking of Soulseek, is there anything in particular that makes it better than the ever-popular kazaa?

Curious.

Well, virtually everything about Soulseek is better than Kazaa.

The four best reasons:

1. Soulseek is completely devoid of spyware, whereas Kazaa is loaded with the stuff.

2. Soulseek has a better selection of music than any other filesharing service, particularly if you are looking for obscure music. Kazaa's selection is pathetic, really. The selection is the biggest draw, I'd say.

3. Kazaa is the most visable and widely used p2p application, and as such is far more likely to be shut down in the upcoming months. Soulseek is comparatively tiny, and very unlikely to be dealt with by the RIAA any time soon.

4. Soulseek allows you to be involved in a community with chat applications, an ability to create a list of favorite users, a wishlist function which tells you when searches of rare songs find something, and for $5 per month you can get special downloading priveleges.

Soulseek is on the fritz again, anyone know why?

No it's been down all weekend? Which is pissing me right off.

You folks need to start reading the Soulseek news page.

They are having some techical problems. It's working, though. You just need to download a temporary replacement version.

Kazaa Lite, on the other hand, isn't. I'd never use full-sugar Kazaa. (Actually, I don't use either because I'm on a Mac, I use gtk-gnutella, but that's by the by.)

Cheers flux, that'll save my sanity. Never try to use Winmx.

As someone who's been using Soulseek occasionally for the past few months, I gotta say its working-ness is variable in the extreme.

Half the time it works, half the time it just doesn't..

Thankfully I don't download much and I never *really, desperately* need to download anything.. but if I did I think it would piss me off a great deal.

My best friend is always having trouble with his slsk too but mine almost always works. Wierd. If it says you failed to connect, wait five seconds and click the connect icon. Thats usually all it takes.

Hate to tell you this Riz, but it's working fine for me. Are you using the fix Flux linked above?

Matthew Fluxington

Soulseek has a new website. Maybe that will help you, Riz.

So is it dead or down for Christmas? Every time I try to look around the site it tries to download some crap onto my computer.
GURR.

oh, wait. I'm a moron. I needed to download the new version.
Off the homepage.

em, move a long, nothing to see here.

It's working fine for me. Are you using the newest client? It's up to 152 right now, and you're definitely going to have problems if you're not using that version.

It's working fine for me. In fact, its working like a miracle - downloading completely obscure shit I never thought I'd find anywhere. Does anyone else have that "option anxiety" problem - too much good stuff! What first?! Arrgh! etc.

Still not quite got it figured out yet though. I appreciated the offer you made a while back to put me on your list Flux, but I haven't quite figured all of this it out yet - chat functions, fave lists etc. Need to have a look at related boards, I think.

Are the soulseek servers down again? Or has it finally been tagged by the RIAA or the BPI?

[instead of making a new thread i thought i'd use this one]
is anyone else getting problems with keeping Soulseek on line? it'll stay on for like 5 minuets then crash. i re-downloaded it from the site but have had no luck. maybe it's just me. the computer has been playing up a bit.
thanks.

It was working for me this weekend (though the guy who's music collection I'm desperately trying to rob was irritatingly offline the whole time).

Nir [and his team] have been doing server maintenance over the last week or so. They're trying to get it sorted.

yeah, it's working fine now.
i'm getting the same problem. either they're not on-line or there's so much of a cue that it's not giving me what i want.
