PJ Harvey and the Queens

According to Triple J, PJ Harvey has become friends with the Queens of the Stone Age, and will be appearing on their new Desert Sessions CD. As I like both PJ and the Queens, I can only hope that this will be a good thing and produce lots of lovely music - I'm imagining Polly's lonely wailing over the desert sounds of Kyuss, which would be fucking cool, but I'm probably wrong. This is the first time QOTSA have used a female vocalist too.

Has anyone heard anything else?

From the PJ Harvey mailing list:

It's already shaping up to be a busy year for P J Harvey, having just
completed a highly successful tour of New Zealand & Australia, Polly headed directly to LA to complete a recording project with Queens Of The Stoneage's Mark Lanegan. Polly spent some time in the studio with Lanegan laying down vocals on a couple of songs which he is working on for his forthcoming solo album. Album details are as yet unavailable, we'll bring you news as and when.

As has been rumoured; we can confirm that Polly is now working with other Queens Of The Stoneage band-member, Josh Homme, on his Desert Sessions project. The results of which should be exciting to say the least - more info to follow soon.

So yeah. That could be interesting.

As a side note, which Desert Sessions disc is worth getting? I know the pre-band music at the Enmore Theatre was from one of them (it profits nobody if I describe it as a kind of lock-step thump thing, like a march, but with weedly guitar over the top) but I'm not sure which. But am keen to hear...

well... I don't actually have any of the desert sessions cd's, but if you haven't already got it I would thoroughly recommend getting Kyuss - Blues for the Red Sun. It has that whole desert feel going for it, and although it ventures a little into Hair Metal territory, it manages to stay away from most of the cliches. And I reckon - unconfirmed as yet - it would tear a massive glowing hole in your brain if listened to whilst chemically enhanced.

Eh. I always preferred Welcome To Sky Valley, 'cos it's more of a steamroller...

The desert sessions are well worth the money. There are now 8 , the last featuring: Lanegan and Masters of reality.
Buy them - if you can find them. Try the Rekords Rekords web site get to it through QOTSA site.

Blues for the red sun does it for me.
Saw Kyuss play to 50 people at sum dump in Bradford(uk) about 10 years ago, have heard nothing like it since.
