Not yet, but Promethea is nothing if not the timeliest of ABC books. And, hey, IL, did you not love the LOEG joke on Buffy this week? HAWR!

What's the joke?

Andrew was waiting for a call from a friend who was gonna let him know when LOEG comes out. Xander shouts "Can you get two?"

That brought a nice smile to my face... but it would have been even cooler if he would have said Promethea.

I saw that joke too and loved it -- obviously the writers are big fans of LOEG.

"Loser."

I don't know if anyone else has pointed this out in another thread, but I'd just like to stand up and give props to J.H. Williams for proving that you don't have to be late to be fucking fantastically great. After the first few issues with guest artists for flashbacks, he's been consistently pumping out some of the best work on the stands every month with just as much design style and detail as all the other slowpokey greats. The man is a gift and, dammit, we need to acknowledge that shit!

I can't wait for 25. Wheep!

Lovely cover!

Is Santa going to be called on as a witness? Will Promethea be on the "nice" or "naughty" section of his List?

Does anyone know if this is going to be an "all-Little-Margie-style" isssue?

And who is that elephant? Has P. encountered this character earlier in the series?

(Also: Thelemic Subliminals Alert!!)

I have seen on the DC site that Promethea 25 is out on the 26th of February, so we got some time to salivate. I don't think Promethea's met Ganesh(the elephant god), but he may have been in some Immateria background that I just didn't catch. I've seen some preview art and I know that niether the Malkuth section in the front, or the Immateria section following will be done "Little Margie" like.

And what are talking about Thelemic subliminals... as if the whole book hasn't cracked my world and made me a devout Golden Dawner by now.

I'm gonna be pissed if Promethea ends and we don't get our answers to all the questions we raise. I mean, we all figure that DD is PD, and the Night Queen should come out sooner or later, but now I'm wondering what ever happened to Anna's half-fiction baby?

Well, Sherlock Holems, Ganesh, and Baron Munchausen were on the moon river boat (and now they're all here.) Also that guy waving his fist in the air, isn't that Sophie's dead relative? The one who wrote the river book?)

Prediction: Promethea will be found guilty of hitting that poor Weeping Gorilla, without provocation, way back at the start of the series. He was just sitting there, the poor thing, hurting nobody…when some science-hero comes along and beats him up…

Actually, the incident probably won’t even be brought up… Weeping Gorilla is probably thought of as fair game, just because he’s an introspective, sensitive soul. Make no mistake, Might Makes Right in this world…people just like to imagine they’re caring, altruistic types…but in the end, if you’re not powerful or healthy or happy then people would really prefer if you went off somewhere else and killed yourself…quietly, so that their good mood isn’t disturbed.

…it’s just not fair.

(*sniff*)

Actually, on my computer screen, it looks as if Weeping Gorilla is not brushing away a tear, but is in fact picking his nose. An idea for a whole new comic-book character? Nose-Picking Gorilla could be introduced as Weeping’s cousin, and then spin off into his own series… It’d probably be very successful.

…end up being more successful than its parent comic-book… and then Weeping Gorilla Comics would end up being cancelled, probably…

…Nose-Picking Gorilla would avoid his cousin, then. He’d be pleasant enough whenever they bumped into each other, but he’d always have some excuse why they couldn’t get together for a night out, or why the time wasn’t right for a Nose-Picking Gorilla/ Weeping Gorilla team-up comic… No one likes to get too near to failure…

(*sigh*)

chesed: And what are talking about Thelemic subliminals

When I first glanced at the cover, I thought the ABC logo read “America’s BEAST comics”. (I know, it’s a stretch…)

chesed: now I'm wondering what ever happened to Anna's half-fiction baby?

Is it possible that the baby became Little Margie? I’ve never been quite sure how Margie fits into the Promethea lineage. If she’s Anna’s kid, maybe she somehow became an eternally childish reflection of her fictional mom and her fictional mom’s adventures. It’d explain why she’s always with the Promethea gang – they’d feel a maternal responsibility towards her.

impulsivelad: Well, Sherlock Holems, Ganesh, and Baron Munchausen were on the moon river boat (and now they're all here.) Also that guy waving his fist in the air, isn't that Sophie's dead relative? The one who wrote the river book?

...And I remember the Wolf, Red Riding Hood, and Weeping G. appearing in Sophie's first visit to the Immateria. That looks like the magician-fellow that Sophie defeated with the sword of analysis; and there's the Muslim Promethea from last ish. When did Santa and the Gorgon appear in the comic, though?

...Solomon's crown/ hat looks kind of sexual...(I think it's The Filth fucking with my perceptual filters.)

Weeping G -- that's going to be my DJ name.

(Could be my porno name, too. ...Sorry, Filth disrupting my thinking again.)

That's exactly what I was thinking, but didn't have enough reason for it to really be an option. The arguement for basically includes her constant presence and the assumption that she acts of her own volition, warranting her own consciousness. The arguemnt against is the evidence provided by Anna's faerie familiars like Meadowsweet and Harebell. If Promethean-familiars are granted Immateria life, then Margie may only be another. Another example is Marto Neptura. If Margie was Promethea's daughter, even if they didn't know it, they ARE awfully rude to her...

Either way, I'm interested if Alan will address this at all. Her "miscarriage" is a tragedy, and may be treated simply as that. It would be pointless to ressurect an entity loved as a stillborn for the sake of added intrigue. I'm not sure Alan would do such a thing.

However, another option for Anna's baby daughter is that she may be the secret Night Queen. We have yet to see her, and she may come out in full force by the end of the series. Gosh I love Promethea.

I think the Gorgon was also on the boat. I don't know about Santa.

Chesed- What's with all this Night Queen stuff? Do you know something we don't? There's no indication that she'll even appear in the comic. I mean, it would be cool but why do you think she'll be a force in the coming issues? Just because she was mentioned? You seem to be pretty sure about her apperance...

(Now watch her show up in the next issue so I'll feel like and utter ass.)

Of the few enemies of Promethea, The Night Queen is the only one not seen or succinctly dealt with.

Also, there's the implication that she was inadvertantly responsible for Bill's death, and may have contributed to the creation of the Painted Doll. Seeing as how those things all link up, I want to see Sophie clean up the mess before the series expires.

Alan doesn't seem to be the kind to let small clues build into nothing, and it may be the "final fight" of the series... once Bill's death and Dennis's madness are cleaned up, there won't be anything necessary to really tell. Sophie's not a character who needs a man, and she's already been to god and back... I'd say she only has to have a converstation with Little Promethea and meet the Devil, and she's done.

I'd still love for Trish Bangs and the Psychic from the 5 Swell Guys too hook up before the end.

HOLY#&%$!

I second that emotion.
This is WHY Promethea remains my favorite series right now.
Holy slap in the face and kick in the balls sweetness.

I guess this means Book Four of Promethea will have seven issues instead of the standard six?

If someone said "Raise your hand if you think Promethea is boring", I would probably have to raise said hand. But NO LONGER! I was totally impressed with this issue. Great story, loved the court room scenes, and the verdict made me chuckle with delight.

It was fantastic! I was really upset that stacia hated sophie even more after the verdict (but it's more realistic that way it would've been stupid is she was like, Oh you know you were right, Soph...). The only thing I don't like is that there's going to be a three year gap between issues (not really, but story wise.) I want to know what happened to Jack and Stacia! Not as exposition, but while it's happening!

And Chesed, I think you've made me paranoid about the Night Queen. And I think Agent Lucy Ball maybe her. She's got that gothic look you'd expect for someone called the Night Queen, her name's obviously fake, and she's just single handedly taken down Promethea (and her people.)

I wonder what's going to become of the temple children... are they going to become living stories like the orginal little girl?

I hadn't thought of Lucille Ball being the Night Queen, but any suggestion is valid at this point.

Damn this issue kicked @$$. I used to think the FBI agents were kind of cute in their absolutely-not-part-of-the-whole-scene kind of way, but now I HATE them. Does anyone think Stacia might be killed? I mean the blood came out of her shoulder, but who knows? Maybe she died.

I especially loved the Judge Solomon's insistence on there being a baby. It makes me think that pure wisdom is only patience and the ability to discern what the "baby" is. As if every problem is really just a baby that shouldn't be cut in two.

And I wonder if there will be any more explained about how everyone in the Immateria knows Babalon... would ANY name of God work? Or only the God that represents the abject revulsion she does? Babalon, by definition, goes where no one else can, does that garner the kind of resepct that Zeus and Jehovah might not?

Too much to think about right now... Faith's back and Sophie's on the run.

Did you notice the mention of Savine the Tom Stron Villian?

Next issue in Millennium City... guest appearance perhaps?

I would hope so... MIllenium City hopefully means that she'll meet Tom and start up the America's Best team that Johnny or Jonni Future mentioned in the ABC special. It's interesting to see that Jack Faust, Saveen and Octavia Price(who's she?) were part of a Legion of supervillains called America's Worst...
heh.

Boring as it may be to have to say it again about Promethea, this was a great issue. Things moved along at some speed, there were some very funny bits, and despite the fact that the end page suggests they're acknowledging the inevitable TPB collections, it re-capped everything nicely as it went along (the court-room scenes help here, obviously) - notice how, amidst all the hoo-ha about Marvel's recap pages, and the fact that some comics (The Ultimates springs to mind) are so obviously written for the collected format, some class acts like Alan Moore manage to hide the exposition in the story in an almost invisible fashion ? That, m'friends, is how to do it.
Art-wise, it was as great as ever - the layouts continue to impress, and was it just me or did the page with the scales at top-left and bottom-right kinda resemble some of the spreads in Alan Moore's first issue of Swamp Thing (no, not 'The Anatomy Lesson', 'Loose Ends' from Swamp Thing 20)? And doesn't the design on the Devil card look like something Marc (Gregory, Sandman:Kindly Ones) Hempel might have drawn?
Anyway, fab stuff, and certainly one in the third eye for people who say that "nothing ever happens in Promethea, it's all talk..."
