So my birthday is coming up, March 3rd. I can't help but note that this year, the date reads 3/3/3. 3 has always been a special number for me, due to Taoist dabblings with duality and transcendence, so I find this highly signifigant, and something I should so something special for. Its definitely a component in some possible powerful personal magick to be done. The question is, what to do, eh?

So what I bring here is, what special correspondences do you see with the number 3? I've got some ideas, but I'm curious what some brainstorming here can come up with.

'3' is quite significant in Tantric cosmology, for example the three shaktis (Kriya, Iccha, Jnana), the measured-the measurer-the act of measuring, Trimurti (Brahma, Siva, Visnu), The three cities. the 3 worlds, the three gunas, the three lights (sun, moon, fire) ... it just goes on and on. But I won't.

3 - the moment binary code gives way to the infinite. 0 - 1 is 2 numbers, comprehension of this (that 0 and 1 are different) gives three numbers in total (0, 1, 2) this can be repeated infinitely from that point on.

3 - the moment point and line become shape. Add one point to form a pyramid (the jump to 3d). A triangle can be divided by triangles evenly and infinitely.

3 - the moment chance repartition becomes pattern.

As Mordant said, the triangle is the most stable shape. Engineers trianglate structures to give them greater stability. 3d virtual models use triagulated meshes to resolve complex solids.

Funny, I read this two days ago, then yesterday I went to work (I tend bar) and two regulars I enjoy talking to (a semi-retired couple in their 50's) told me that for 3 nights in a row one of them was suddenly awoken at 3:33 am (first 2 nights the wife, 3rd night the husband). They then informed me that they thought this weird not only just because it happened (obviously) but because the wife's sister's b-day is 03-03-03. This made me simultaneously think of YOur thread realize that 333 is actually, when distilled down, 111. 111, as I'm sure many of You know is significant in many ways in many people's lives (including, to a degree, my own). It has been something like a year and a half since I read up on this number stuff, but this has spurred me to re-investigate 111 (and subsequently 333) and I will let You know what I find, if anything worthwhile. Maybe the key to some way You could utilize this date lies within the path of 111 (or maybe it can just point in the right direction).

I just really thought the smilarities between Your and this couples scenarios was cool.

Chronzon = 333, getting all dark and Kenneth Grant on yo birthday ass (this is the demon that Crowley invoked into himself while skrying the 30 Aethyrs in Algeria). Means dispersion, I think. KG makes a big deal out of how Chronzon is half of 666 as well.

Less qlipothically, - someone said to me once that the Hindu/tantric stuff is so big on three's is because having things in triples gets you out of binary opposition. Creation/maintenance/destruction is another one. I think you can relate the changing lines in the I Ching to this - duality of broken/unbroken needs a pivot or point of change.
Another might be Earth and Heaven with man as the midpoint ie Ganesha (Macrocosm - Elephant, micrcosm - mouse, man - link between the two)

It is definately the best number ever. Incidentally, I got my first medal for gymnastics on the 3/3 when i was 9 (=3x3) which i thought was groovy. My brother argues that 2 is a better number, but he's clearly a fool.

i don't know anything about numerology but for me it's always been like this, one is the universal number (one reality one God one Life), two is dichotomy(sp?) (yin yang, male female light and dark) three is a power number, (father son holy ghost, serpant false prophet and the antichrist, the three hindu gods(i forget all of their names brahmin shiva and krishnu maybe?), creater destroyer maintainer, tiamat apsu and cthulu) the number that all power stems from. anything that has power happens in threes. death, bad things, good things, all happen in threes, only three things in life are constant: death taxes and i forget the third. I think this is supposed to be a bad year for authority so maybe entrenched power structures will switch on that day.

Get a tattoo on the day. There are loads of trisymmetric symbols that embody all the things we're talking about, and maybe it will lock up some of the power of the moment- more permanently than most workings, anyway. Maybe tattoos aren't your cup of tea, but magickally speaking they make an excellent focus. I only have one (a seal of Solomon, i.e. two triangles making a star in a circle) but I chose it on the day I got it, picked it off the wall of the parlour (it was the only one I wanted, the rest were skulls and roses etc) and still like it now, ten years on. I only tell this tale to provide counter-evidence to the people who say 'you'll regret it, don't be hasty, it really hurts' etc. -just make sure you go to a good professional (ideally a friend who's a mage!)
