Not Far From Heaven

A movie comes along and simultaneously manages to be oldfashioned, modern and postmodern, while displaying some actors and actresses who deliver subtle perfomances in an oldfashioned, modern and postmodern manner and none of you had the courage to start up a thread to discuss how great it was?

Oh, that's right, this forum is mainly for fanboy speculation on million dollar in-production movies.

Go see this movie before the awards kill it.

Yep. That's it. We're all cowards. We're afraid that if we mention Julianne Moore, the lizards will get us.

isn't it funny how, if you start a thread being rude and arrogant, it rarely gets any better? You nonce-sniffing twat.

Being rude and arrogant? Ho-ho, what a nice pair of eyes you have, Haus. They see what they want to see, apparently.

Do I have to fester my posts with smilies until the smilie bank goes rupt, in order to be received differently?

Ho.

No, you just have to be a little less arrogant from the outset. The whole retrospective IT WAS A JOKE!!!!! defence of rudeness went a little flat after the Knodger overused it.

Or like pork does nonces?

For what it's worth, I really like the look of 'Far From Heaven'. The reason I haven't started a thread discussing how great it is is that it opens in London on March 7th.

How about you give us a little more on what you liked and disliked about the film - preferably in a non-spoilery way?

Nope. You have to not act like a dick. Is Ganesh says, the reason none of us might have had the "courage" to mention this may be because we in the UK don't, unlike you and the Psychic Friends Network, have the power to TRAVEL IN TIME ITSELF and go forward to after it is released.

Apparently it's clearly a tribute to the movies of Douglas Sirk, which sounds interesting...

Nope. You have to not act like a dick.

Ah yes, how wonderful to live under the scrutinizing eyes of a (former) board irritant, who very few *actually* got until a certain point of time.

However, the look of the movie is certainly one of the main selling points, another the oldstyle proceedings fashioned after said Sirk inspiration source, coupled with modern touches that simultaneously touch and enduce cringes -- in a good way, certainly. Moore, Quaid and Haysbert are certainly game, and they never once bring irony to the table, quite a feat if you ask me.

Plus, it's a timeless tale of personal selfdiscovery vs. the inhibitive society, which never goes out of fashion.

The world revolves around your country, we know that.

Yes. I'm rather glad to hear that myself. And from the nonce-sniffer general, at that. Perhaps the UK will be the last outpost where the Noncepatrol rallies after the hideous world-destroying cataclysm that will consume everyone who ever made fun of them EVER, before saving the world and getting all the girls/boys/beeeeeooooooootiful bisexual ex-models.

This is brilliant. I know the Greenland posse has so far claimed to be better than the rest of us for on the grounds of not eating meat, not being Jewish, not having sex with children, being able to sniff paedophiles and having magical psychic powers that make them very important actually, but this is the first time I believe that a claim has been made that starting a thread about a movie exemplifies superior moral fibre to the rest of the world. I bet they eat Breakfast in a really heroic way, too.

Christ, Haus, what a lovely, lovely literal fascism you've got going on, and your thread derailment prowess has once again asserted the removal of this thread from the movie section. You must feel strangely honoured, boy. By your sheer delightful logic, don't restrain yourself for this thread to utilize your pussyfying act. Go on, act like the time when you admitted you were a troll.

Sheesh, lighten the fuck up. And get off Ganesh's thighs, I couldn't care less about him.

Tell you what, in addition to the Literal Fascism Police activity, why not publish How to Defend Fanboys the Haus Way -- the reductionist edition, which could never be a hassle for you, my dear boy.

You tire me, you accuse, accuse, accuse, reduce, boil down and serve residue, *that* I don't particularly want.

This thread's trying, but I just can't see it being another 'Mark Millar from another perspective'.

(Obsessed, moi?)

Good to see you back, Bendt.

Can we expand on the 'Jewish' and 'former board irritant' comments for controversy-fans such as myself. Also, what is pussyfying?

pussyfying = pacifying, administered by - *guffaw* get this - a gay homosexual man but y'know what they say, a dick knows a dick.

Jewish, oooh boy, I can't even properly remember the names anymore, Zion something, the Priorie? The lost articles by the Zion? Something or other certainly.

This is from the start of 2001, from a thread called "You have been touched by an Angel" which I began, and eventually included Laila, this beautiful bisuxual ex-model that Haus entertains the masses with when he is stuck for material, and there was an enormous debate/discussion/shitflinging about the Jews, mostly Laila's stance that the Jews were continually lobbying for our sympathy by never letting us forget the Holocaust, and including a 'wet dream about Hitler' as Dupre dubbed it. Also, the Jewish leaders were corrupt as hell, as stood in the thread's pages. The reductionist, Haus version, y'see.

'former board irritant' = was when very few *got* Haus, which occurred every 2nd day back then.

I don't know, I have been slightly annoyed at times with him, now being one of them but not enough to raise my pulse, but I can see his eye in the Photo thread, nice handsome bloke, fair and honest, however in his own way.

Might the document in question be The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a nasty racist hoax that's been around for a hundred years of so and still hooks the wilfully gullible. Verrrry popular with successive dregs of the Far Right through the years and the cause of much anti-semitic bile, Duncan.

OK, coming late to this, but let me see if I understand what is going on. Chromeo is angry that no-one else has started a thread about a particular film. Rather than start the thread about this particular film he has decided instead to start a thread about how angry he is that no-one else has started a thread about this particular film?

Is that it?

Might I suggest that someone starts a a thread, maybe just says 'this film is crap', so that Chromeo can write a long impassioned piece about how the film is not 'crap' and then everyone's happy. Then we can make like the Beastie Boys and LICENSE TO ILL THIS THREAD!

No. Try again.

Honestly.

I'm fine with illing this thread, where it has veered off on a tangent note I don't particularly find wettining. I am quite perplexed, however, that Haus felt the need to pervert the proceedings as he's done because had he done his homework he would have seen that I indeed posted to the multi million dollar movies in production threads, and neither am I culturally elevated in the sense that Haus ofttimes prefer to be viewed, like, I know what happens from Excalibur #1 to #67, now, had I been properly educated I not only would have all the issues but also the lunchboxes, action figures and variant cover editions.

Bendt, I don't think you get it. You slittled the throat of this thread and dumped into a ditch of threadrot and did so singlehandedly. From the get-go.

It devolved to such a level that I don't blame Haus, or whoever the moderators for Film And TV are, for chucking it here. You wanted it to be about the movie, bless your heart. But it just wasn't meant to be. It has no redeeming value except as pure conversational fluff now. So here it is.

Congrats.

Well, If Chromeo wants to try again, perhaps with a little less venom in his first post towards other Barbelii then I'm sure there will be people who will want to reply, providing anyone else has actually seen this thing.

If he does then I'd move to delete this thread due to it's utter pointlessness unless there are objections.
