Nazi-technology, aleister crowley and usa... what lies behind?

as everybody knows, aleister crowley had strong sympathies for the EARLY evolution of the "third reich" (probably more the "romantic" and "wagnerian" style; he soon dissociated from it when he saw the desastrous consequences) and rudolf hess and heinrich himmler were more than interested in the O.T.O. hitler himself believed in "extraterrestric beings" in the aldebaran system and wanted to visit those "ancient aryans".
fact is that the ss had secret development facilities in northern germany and austria (possibly antarctica, neuschwabenland) where top-scientists tried to built flying discs by using the energy-implosion-theories of victor schauberger (schauberger-technology is still used in so-called "right-spin-water-faucets" you can buy from his son´s company in germany). the engines were merely constructed by BMW-engineers, the facilities were supervised by members of the ss-related "black-sun" - order (vril). all these connections were left out of consideration during the nuremberg-trials. this was necessary because the whole thing is very strange and weird and could have caused some high nazis to pretend they´ve been non compos mentis.

i live in austria so if anybody has information about the theories mentioned above i could make some "field research".

A quick google on the phrase "Black Sun" brought up a number of reviews of this book which looks like a good place to start. However, as I know zilch about the subject, I think I'll refrain from commenting.

Obviously,, can't keep my gob shut - What looks to me like a quite thorough review of the same author's other book, though this is perhaps coming from earlier period than the one you're interested in.

I cna't believe it - well, I can actually - there's a site called www.naziufos.com/ - might be of interest - and there's more stuff here. Looks to melike there's pages and pages out there...

There's a book written by a famous italian storicist called Giorgio Galli, its title is "Hitler e il nazismo magico". As I think not many people here at Barbelith can speak italian, I can reassume some of the most interesting things in the book.
In the first part there's an examination of the occult scene in Germany in the years before Hitler's rising.
There were a lot of groups involved with magic during that period, and most of nazis gerarcs were between the followers.
One of the most interesting part of the book is about Rudolph Hess' flight to England just before the bombings.
Galli claims that this flight, often commented by other storicist as "a mad man's delirium",was instead an effort to negotiate a separate peace with all the Brit Aristocrats involved with occult, who were following beliefs similar to those of the nazis leaders.

There is an English book, might be the translation of the one mentioned above, dramatically called Hitler:Black Magician.
Read it ages ago, remember almost nothing, but at the time I found it rather amusing/interesting.

The Nazis definitely had it all out for the Occult. The Armenian rune system and the work of the Guido Von Lisp society were adopted pretty early on. Note the use of the swastica (sun wheel, two Sig runes in crossing) and the double Sig of the SS. I've seen some pics of SS officer rings as well, which included bind runes in their design that invoked power and purpose, but supressed personal will (no Isa present in the design). They were also obsessed with Parcival. Hitler's quest to obtain the Spear of Destiny from a prominent museum is also a popular story. Hitler refused to allow astrology of any kind, however, which I find interesting.

So, I wouldn't find it at all suprising if they were trying to build UFOs too. Just keep in mind that there are a lot of wild speculations about what they were researching. The only truth you can be sure of is that chances are, they were sticking their fingers into everything they could think of that might help, even the kookiest of things.

Um, care to site a valid reference here? This is news to me and I've read a ton about Crowley. And there remains a big difference between having an interest in the Wagnerian current and having a sympathy for the Nazi party.

Suddenly i saw this bookstore in one of the houses garages, its was kinda small but the walls was filled with books. Lots and lots of books on occultism, magick new age and shitloads of nazibooks and propaganda. Didnt stay in their for so long... Feelt realy wierd in there, i got the fuck out of there. When i later tried to bring my friends with me to show them the book store i couldnt find it again...

So i guess the naziscumbag magicians went to Quito...

the thing with quito... well... boys from brazil, eyyy! it´s interesting that most of all american ufo sightings are over mexico and south/middle america... besides, the mexican army does believe in ufos. contrary to the us air force.

it is possible that some "strange" technology (and nazi-germany was leading in jet propulsion and related research) was brought to the usa after ww2 within operation "paperclip" (it´s no x-files-invention, it´s real!). just think about wernher von braun... who originally has been a war criminal (for human experimentations and development of "v2" ; "v" stands for "vergeltung" ("revenge")) before the us-intelligence brought him to the states and erased his file. now he´s "the" father of apollo and the first moonflight.
it would be illogic if there wouldn´t have been some more nazi-scientists who were saved by us-army and intelligence to work for the usa. most of them lived and live in south- and middle america. once again: where are the most ufo-sightings? see?

@ chris23:

read the book: "Occult Roots of Nazism: Secret Aryan Cults and Their Influences on Nazi Ideology", by Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke,
New York University Press
i think there are also references for crowley - nazi connections in the book "the great beast 666" by john symonds.

crowley thought that the strong power and compromiseless will of the early national socialists would burn down the "old world", ruled by christian religions and establish a new world order of horus. he felt sympathy for the aesthetic side of fascism.
soon he realised that hitlers cult (and it was more cult than political movement) turned out as completely insane and stupid. most of all he was disturbed by goebbels and hitlers "final solution"-ideas. crowley, as a great adorer of all jewish philosophies and cabbalistic mysticism, couldn´t be with people who wanted to wipe out the jews. and though he always wanted to force will to weaken analytic mind crowley WAS highly intellectual and despised any form of ignorance and stupidity.
files exist which are evidence for crowleys cooperation with british secret service to decoy rudolf hess (a very great sympathisant of crowley and the O.T.O.) to great britain and, as we all know, had success.

i also found this strange "history"... but i am not sure if it´s very serious:

"ALEISTER CROWLEY

"Before Hitler was, I am."
-- Aleister Crowley

Edward Alexander Crowley was born on October 12th, 1875 in Warwickshire, England into a wealthy and religious family at the height of the Victorian era. The young Crowley was raised in a strict Christian home - his father Edward was a preacher in a sect known as the Plymouth Brethren, and Edward was only allowed to read the Bible at home when he was a child.

But he despised and rebelled against his family at every turn, even renaming himself 'Aleister' to avoid sharing the same first name as his father, who passed away in 1887. Aleister lost his virginity a few yars later at age 14 with the help of a maid, and at 17 he contracted gonorrhea with the help of a street walker.

Crowley went on to attend Cambridge University, and lived in the manner of the privileged aristocracy while having a great deal of sex with both men and women. He also began working in the Diplomatic Service, and was competent in his knowledge of English, French and German, but Crowley wished to make a greater imprint on the world.

He began searching for more lasting pursuits and in 1898, at age 23, Crowley began his path of magical enlightenment by joining The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Led by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers, other members of the Golden Dawn included notables such as William Butler Yeats, Maud Gonne, Constance Wilde, (the wife of Oscar Wilde), Arthur Machen, Moina Bergson, Arthur Edward Waite, Florence Farr, Algernon Blackwood, Sax Rohmer and Bram Stoker. Mathers' authority was held in part by his link to the gods, the true leaders of the Order, with whom only Mathers could communicate with through metaphysical means.

These ancient, highly intelligent beings worked in concert with certain human adepts - individuals with highly developed occult powers. The truly initiated could, by means of magic-mystical rituals, establish contact with them and learn secret arts unknown to the rest of humanity. The Golden Dawn had adapted the system of magic outlined by occultist Eliphas Levi, and traced its spiritual ancestry to the Rosicrucian Brotherhood and, from there, through the Kabbalah to ancient Egypt. Its contribution to the Western magical tradition would be a synthesis of the Kabbalah, alchemy, tarot, astrology, divination, numerology, Masonic symbolism, and ritual magic into one coherent and logical system which led them to influence countless occult organizations to come.

Crowley advanced quickly through the ranks of the Golden Dawn, but unfortunately he managed to severely fragment the order through sheer force of personality. As with any serious dispute between magicians, astral attacks ensued, but in the end it was the police who resolved the matter. The result was that The Golden Dawn was destroyed and several fractions arose from its ashes.

Tired of all the fighting, Crowley then chose to travel the world, visiting Mexico, India, France, and Ceylon where he studied Buddhism, yoga and meditation. On returning to England, Crowley purchased a house near Loch Ness known as Boleskine House, and married the clairvoyant Rose Kelly. Travelling with her to Egypt in March 1904, Crowley had the most important experience of his life.

In Cairo, after invoking the ancient Egyptian god Horus, Crowley encountered a being known as Aiwass, and for three days he took dictation from the entity. (Crowley later identified Aiwass as the dark Elder God worshipped by the Sumerians as Shaitan and by the Egyptians as Set.) The resulting text, Liber AL vel Legis, became what is now known as The Book of the Law. This book was to become the central core of Crowley's philosophy, and Crowley was named the Prophet of a New Aeon which would end the Age of Osiris and usher in the Age of Horus - a signal that a new era had begun for mankind, and that the old faiths were to be swept aside.

After the encounter with Aiwass, Mathers received a message announcing that the Equinox of the Gods had come, and that Crowley had forged a new link with the Ascended Masters, thus making him the supreme magical authority. This naturally resulted in a magical duel, which Crowley eventually won. Crowley soon learned that among his past lives he was the reincarnation of Eliphas Levi, who had died the same year that Crowley was born.

In 1907, Crowley formed the Argenteum Astrum, the Order of the Silver Star, a magical organization centered around The Book of the Law, and several years later, in 1910, he was contacted by the head of a secret Berlin lodge known as the Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO). Crowley joined the order shortly thereafter, and in 1912, became the head of the English speaking branch of the OTO.

Crowley welcomed the Great War as necessary to sweep away the old age and usher in the new one. Crowley was not only an occultist, but also a double-agent and a skilled practitioner of counter-espionage. He waited out the Great War in the United States and correspondend with an acquaintance in the British Intelligence Department, saying that he was "in a position to get into the full confidence of the Germans." Crowley maintained that he "had the absolute confidence, years old, of a man high in the German secret service," and that he "could go to Germany" under an assumed identity and "report on the conditions of the country" as a spy for Britain. But he also wrote disturbing anti-British stories for The Fatherland, a pro-German weekly paper published in America by George Sylvester Viereck.

During this time Crowley began collecting a large number of photographs, full face and profile for each subject, and classifying them according to the horoscope in search of a double or look-alike to transform into his avatar. Thousands of photographs of German soldiers were classified and studied, but Crowley also needed a double with a clean police and service record - perhaps even a soldier noted for courage on the battlefield. He also needed someone single, an unknown loner living far enough away from any family members or friends who might otherwise notice the transformation. But most important, he needed someone who was still morally innocent: a virgin. This "Magic Child" would forfeit his own identity and, if Crowley had his way, even his soul.

Crowley simply vanished in the summer of 1918 and did not turn up in England again until the next year. During the missing weeks that marked the end of the Great War, Crowley located his Magic Child in Pasewalk Military Hospital in northern Germany. In 1918, about two months after winning the Iron Cross, Adolf Hitler was blinded by mustard gas during a battle on the front lines and taken to Pasewalk. Suffering from hysteria and mustard gas blisters, Hitler's face was bandaged with gauze and he remained in a state of enforced trance for several days.

Dr. Edmund Forster, chief of the Berlin University Nerve Clinic, treated Hitler at Pasewalk and prepared him for magical initiation with hypnosis and drugs (including narcotics and methamphetamines). Dr. Forster told his patient "I am a simple doctor. But perhaps you yourself have the rare power, which occurs only occasionally in a thousand years, to work a miracle. Jesus did it. Mohammed. The saints... An ordinary person with such a condition would be blind for life. But for a person of particular strength and will and spiritual energy, there are no limits... You have to have a blind faith in yourself, then you will stop being blind... You know that Germany needs people who have energy and blind self-confidence. Austria is at an end, but not Germany."

Crowley's disciples then staged a secret rite which involved ritual sex magic, and the Magic Child was conceived: after Germany's surrender on November 11, 1918, Hitler claimed that he had experienced "a supernatural vision ... a miracle came to pass" and he could see again. But when the bandages were removed, Hitler only slightly resembled his earlier self. He was a changed man, with almost no recollection of his past, who had extreme difficulty recognizing his close friends and remembering old acquaintances. Hitler wore dark glasses during the first period of recovery from his chemical blindness, but his nose, forehead, and chin were permanently altered - supposedly from inflammations caused by exposure to mustard gas.

Literally overnight, Hitler discovered his unusual powers of suggestion, and debated with dogmatic opinions about history, politics, philosophy, and other things that had never crossed his mind before. The uneducated corporal who had never had a girlfriend emerged from a few weeks in hospital as a seasoned diplomatic leader who would shamelessly seduce his own niece.

In 1920, Crowley set up the notorious Abbey of Thelema in Sicily, where he performed black magic rituals and other scandalous acts during the same time as the rise of the fascist Mussolini regime. (Thelema is Greek for "The Will" - Crowley used the word to represent his most important concept, the statement "Do As Thou Wilt Shall Be The Whole Of The Law".) Crowley's ultimate goal was "The Babylon Working", a ceremony which would create a new interdimensional gate between the stars.

Crowley's student Dietrich Eckart would become an important mentor for Hitler during this time. Eckart was the wealthy publisher and editor-in-chief of the anti-Semitic journal Auf Gut Deutsch. He was also a committed occultist and a master of magic who belonged to the inner circle of the Thule Society as well as other esoteric orders. Eckart used his master's ritual magic to prepare Hitler for his occultic destiny of ruling the Aryan race and ultimately the world.

Having done his worst, Eckart died in 1923, but only after proudly advising those around him: "Follow Hitler! He will dance, but it is I who have called the tune! I have initiated him into the 'Secret Doctrine', opened his centers of vision and given him the means to communicate with the Powers. Do not mourn for me: I shall have influenced history more than any other German."

From then on Crowley himself influenced Hitler's thinking and beliefs directly. Hitler was already familiar with his writing and theories through the Thule Society, and The Book of the Law, oriented toward various fascist principles, became Hitler's guide. Very often he would paraphrase or express an idea from the book - often word for word.

Armed with new, secret psychological techniques Hitler was able to move the obscure National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) from the clubs and beer halls to a mass movement, while in 1925 Crowley was elected World Head of the OTO.

Between 1936 and 1939 Crowley paid a number of visits to Nazi Germany while Heinrich Himmler's Occult Corps (Geheim-Korps) recruited or persecuted all practicing occultists in Germany and incorporated into one organization the Thule Society, the Vril Society and the German branch of the OTO. The SS Paranormal Division's subsequent vilification of Crowley during World War II was a simple cover; behind the political facades performed for the public the most powerful factions (occult and economic) of Germany and Britain were not enemies but allies, bound together in the one great war for the conquest of men’s souls and minds.

Himmler viewed the relationship between Crowley and Hitler like that once shared by Merlin and Arthur: the one magician, adviser and the architect of Camelot, the other true-born king, and each equally benefitting from the favors of the other. But Marianna Blavatsky, high priestess of the Occult Corps, claimed the relationship was more like that once shared by Rasputin and the Romanovs of Russia, and that it was Crowley who ruled the Third Reich..."

Captain, I just had to bedunk that last one first off.

I do believe that there is much evidence documenting occult interests of some of the upper ranking Nazi officers. Tibet, The Ark, Spear of Destiney, etc... Your first post was highly suggestive without providing any evidence. My initial reaction was just to get the facts out in the open. Crowley gets a lot of heat for many reasons, some of which is valid and some of which is not. But he most certainly was not a Nazi. I appreciate your follow-up post detailing the extent of Crowley's initial interest in and subsequent hatred of the National Socialist Party.

chris23,
thanks for your enlightening facts about my link to "castle wolfenstein"... embarassing. i never played the game and i, alas!, didn´t check the rest of the page from which i got my link. my fault. and i´m sorry for that. but as you could see: i wasn´t sure if it was serious. now you proved that my suspicion was justified.
and yes, sure, crowley kept after a short time of fascination the farest distance to national socialistic ideas. i studied crowley from my 17th to my 26th age and can not say that any of the things he wrote had any relation to fascistic idealism. those who say so (and all the small-minded who believe that a.:c.: was a "black magician") are absolutely wrong. but it´s the long tragedy of magick and all illuminating philosophies that they only can be understood with some experience and knowledge. with this background it is possible that crowley (and the illuminates) was wrong to give deeper secrets to the masses... though i sympathize with it, too. let´s hope mankind will rise into a golden dawn.

Two points. Number one: has anyone considered that perhaps this linking of Nazis with the occult is actually planned, by sources unknown, in order that people will be discouraged from any interest in Alesteir Crowley (etc)? Some kind of "othering" process?

After all, the "average joe" would probably put Nazis and Crowley in the same boat, along with Voodoo and anything else they didn't understand. In the context of popular bias, "other-ness" seems to guarantee "evil-ness".

Add to this the fact that a huge ammount has been written, filmed and said about the Nazis after they came and went. People are always looking to find an "angle" on them and "Magic Nazi Ufos" is just one of them.

Number two: though time has moved on, I certainly hope everyone here, of all places, realises the true shitness of the Nazis. Even those with an interest in Nordic or Aryan related stuff should know that whatever the theories behind it, the end result of the third reich was a world poised on the brink of nuclear destruction and millions upon millions of dead souls.

Though I don't think it necessarily reflects poorly on his philosophy, I get the impression from the first or second chapter of BOOK 4 that Crowley was antisemitic. It kinda makes sense that, given the occult nature of the nazi's origins, he'd be involved with them in some way. However, I don't think that had anything to do with the technological developments.

However, I think this might be related:

I'm pretty sure that the OTO, along with other masonic organisations, were vigourously persecuted by the Nazis. Specifically, according to http://user.cyberlink.ch/~koenig/metzger.htm, Theodor Reuss was imprisoned by the Nazis:

during a visit to Germany in 1935, Reuss was arrested by the Gestapo because of his High Masonic Degree (33°). He was transported to the Alexanderplatz Prison in Berlin and he there experienced all the horrors of the Nazi inquisition...

He was then spent time in a concentration camp.

Linking the OTO with the Nazis is just silly. Crowley was avowedly anti-Nazi in the war -- and, since he lived with Germer, was unlikely to have done so if professed any other view...

Martha Kunzel was a student of Crowley's who tried to get her somewhat muddled version of Thelemsa into Hitler's masterplan, she gave him a copy of the Book Of the Law.
An illuminati oganisation like the OTO would have been fundamentally opposed to fashism,as would the Law of Thelema. Then there's another puil;Major/General Fuller the only Englishman to be invited to Hitler's 50th birthday party, but at that stage long estranged from Crowley. I don't think Crowley was responsible for Hitler, makes a graet conspiract theory for non-occultists though!"The most successful Magickal practice of the 3rd.Reich was there for all to see.The overaweing imagary of the rallies, topped by Hitler's excellent oration, all designed to arouse and enflame the Masses into the masterplan.
Crowley was appartently involved in a bizarre magickal right where a manickan dressed in a Nazi uniform was launced through the air on a run wire from a Chuch tower, this apparently had the desired effect with Hess' plain taking a detour to Britain.

seems to have disappeared. I wonder if the author, presumably margo schreck, has any connection with cold hard and black merchant Nicholas Schreck? Either way, it's a farrago of highly dubious nonsense. Why didn't you pick up on that before posting it?

The second reference, the site

does itself say that "the Nazis banned the occult lodges of Germany, notable among them two organisations which Crowley had supervised: the A\ A\ and the O.T.O.". I don't know why you would include this URL as if it supported your speculaton that Crowley was a Nazi.

The book "Occult Roots of Nazism: Secret Aryan Cults and Their Influences on Nazi Ideology", by Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke, is IIRC pretty much completely fabricated.

Yossarian, what precisely is your agenda is trying to spread this propaganda which partially whitewashes Nazism by claiming Crowley as a supporter? Your insinuation that "hess and heinrich himmler were more than interested in the O.T.O." is contradicted by the Nazis' later persecution of the OTO and is probably offensive to old OTO hands.

Or are you simply sufficiently naive that you believe all this crap?

Has anyone read Ravencroft's (sp?) book on the Thule Society, THE SPEAR OF DESTINY? Apparently, this story is the basis for RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. I don't think there was any connection between GD and Thule.

However, though Crowley may not have been a Nazi or sympathetic to fascism, he did appear to be quite racist and anti-semitic even for that time period. Did this affect his teachings and philosophy?

Germany was still a relatively young country after being formed or unified in 1871 from a mixture of many smaller German-speaking territories which were all divided into several hundred kingdoms, principalities, duchies, bishoprics, fiefdoms and independent cities and towns. Suddenly this new young country formed out of all of this was thrown into Europe against a background of social change that was the late 19th and early 20th century. So there's this young nation.

There was a interest all across Europe. The established authority of the Church had been shaken by Darwin “Origin of the species”. There was a moment of spiritualism, fuelled partly by Queen Victoria's interest in contacting the deceased Prince Albert. From the very beginning the Ripper Murders were tagged with a occult significance. Occult and Masonic type lodges flourished among the upper and middle classes, both in Britain and the European continent. New fiction was putting forward some radical ideas, Bram Stokers Dracula was published in 1897, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein had been published 1818 but found popularity in the later half of the 19th century. Jules Verne and H G Wells explored some speculative ideas, which a century before would have been deemed heretical by the church. Science was moving at a fast rate and the effects of that science could be seen, Electric street lighting and Radio, devices like this had a immediate effect on the general population, factory's were becoming more mechanised, Mass production had its effect on social order.
It was the era of the “Gentleman Scientist”, along with Darwinism and the Microscope there was the early days of Psychology and Sociology, Exploration into the wilder areas of the world such as the Amazon basin and New Guinea led to theories in Anthropology, as for the first time explores came face to face with so called Primitive tribes. This led onto the the theory of Eugenics. These Gentleman Scientists were of the upper middle classes, the same people who were members of Lodges.
It was a time when the established pillars of religion and science were being shaken, and out of this came several key characters in what would be the eventual rise of Nazism. Its important to remember that at this time no one foresaw what would eventually happen, With the value of hindsight this essay is easy to write.
Starting with Helena Blatskavy and the Theosophical society. Blatskavy claimed she was in telepathic contact with a race of homo superior called the Aryans, they had been a highly developed and evolved race, like the Atlantis and the Hyperborians and were a “root” race, that is to say the current world races, were mongrel mixes of the Aryans and other less developed primitive races. The once mighty empire of the Aryans was now nothing more than a couple of outposts in the Himalayas and they had travelled to northern Europe where they had seeded the Nordic races. And while Blatskavy certainly influenced British Occult Lodges such as The Order of the Golden Dawn. She influenced the European Occult lodges too.
The next person is the Godfather of Nazism was Guido Von List. Von List popularised the notion that Runes had magical properties-much in the same way that the Kabbalisitc scholars attributed magical properties to the Hebrew alphabet. He studied heraldry and incorporated a lot of occult meanings into coats of arms. He believed that in the middle ages there was a secret society a kind of Templar society called “Armanashaft” who were Warrior/King/Priests who ruled the aichent European lands from behind the scenes. Its very doubtful this society ever really existed but List projected all his nationalistic fantasy's onto them. He also wound into this fantasy the dominance of the Roman Catholic church in Germany as a kind of “Occupation of the German states by the Roman Empire.”
Along with List was a ex Cistersersian monk called Jorg lanz Von Liebenfrels, living in Vienna in 1904, he published his book Theozoologie ("Theozoology") in which he advocated sterilization of the sick and the "lower races" as well as forced labour for "castrated chandals", and glorified the "Aryan race" as "Gottmenschen" ("god-men"). Theozoology could also be classified as a work encompassing what has now come to be called cryptozoology. Lanz justified his neognostic racial ideology by attempting to give it a Biblical foundation; according to him, Eve, whom he described as initially being divine, involved herself with a demon and gave birth to the "lower races" in the process. Furthermore, he claimed that this led to blonde women being attracted primarily to "dark men", something that only could be stopped by "racial de mixing". One year later, in 1905, he founded the magazine Ostara, Briefbücherei der Blonden und Mannesrechtler, of which he became the sole author and editor in 1908. Lanz himself claimed to have up to 100,000 subscribers, but it is generally agreed that this figure is grossly exaggerated. Readers of this publication included Adolf Hitler and Dietrich Eckart, among others. Lanz claimed he was once visited by the young Hitler, whom he supplied with two missing issues of the magazine. Also in 1905 Lanz and some 50 other supporters of List signed a declaration endorsing the proposed Guido-von-List-Gesellschaft (Guido Von List Society), which was officially founded in 1908. He also founded his own esoteric organisation, the Ordo Novi Templi (Order of the New Templars) in 1907. These movements were supposed to "further the racial self-confidence by doing pedigree and racial research, beauty contests and the founding of racist "future sites" in underdeveloped parts of the Earth" ("das Rassebewusstsein durch Stammbaum- und Rassekundeforschung, Schönheitswettbewerbe und die Gründung rassistischer Zukunftsstätten in unterentwickelten Teilen der Erde zu fördern"). To further this agenda, he purchased the Werfenstein castle ruins in Austria. Neither organization really managed to attract a large member base, though; it is estimated that the order had around 300 members, the most prominent of which was the poet Fritz von Herzmanovsky-Orlando. Lanz's claim that the organization was already founded prior to 1900, and that he met with August Strindberg in 1896 and managed to convince him to join the order, have been shown to be fabricated. Even though the order was small in number and some of its claims unfounded its influences were sadly very wide reaching. Prior to all of this Jorg Von Libenrfels has made his name as a Bible scholar, which leant a air of authenticity to his later work.

Now the young Adolf Hitler joined the German Army at the outbreak of hostilities and his job all through the War was a communications messenger on the front line, he ran messages from trench to trench, a job which had a short life expectancy due to the dangers involved, Hitler thrived in this environment he had extreme 'luck' and was awarded the Iron Cross, though never made it past Corporal on the promotions ladder. Hitler was blinded in a gas attack towards the end of the first world war and some say he had a epiphany while recuperating in hospital. While he was in Hospital the German High command surrendered, not because of a military disadvantage, in fact the German Army was “winning” in 1918. But in Germany itself, its infrastructure was collapsing, citizens in Germany were starving, the workers in the factories which supplied the war machine the were striking and its this severance in supply which prompted the end of hostilities. Germany was more or less starved into submission.
On some photographs and newsreels of the First World War German Soldersdecorated their kit with the Swastika and Runes for luck the ideas of List had ffiltered down from the intellectuall upper classes to thesolders in the trenches, Its possible these ideas and concepts of people like List and Liberfrels had been used as propaganda on the front line troops.
After the War Hitler travelled to Munich, Also in Munich was the “Thule Society” one of many Occult Lodges which had sprang up after the War, who's membership was a mixture of Aryan promoting intellectuals and War hardened veterans. The “Thule Society” decided to create a political wing and called it “The German Workers Party”. Hitler at this time was working for the army as a sort of spy and he was sent into to gather information on communist groups. And sent to gather information on the German Workers Party, Hitler however found himself in agreement with their ideas and within a few months was leading the Workers Party. The Thule Society found this decorated war hero and began to “Groom” him, they introduced him to the upper classes and industrialists, he received lessons off a drama coach to improve his ability and charisma as a public speaker. This is the start point of Nazismhere in Munich with the Thule Society and people like Alfred Rosenberg (Hung in the NNurembergtrails) and Dietreich Eckart. Rosenberg was a anti semetic and anti communist, and published the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” a hoax or propaganda document of the alleged minutes of the 1896 world conference of Jewery where the high ranking Jews all over the world have a summit and take minutes of their master plan? This document still resurfaces every now and then as different factions try and pin their own agendas too it. The most recent one being. That Rosenberg substituted Jews for Masons and its actually a Masonic plan to take over the world! The Thule Society wasn't just a intellectual society though, they became active. The closest analogy I can give is that the Thule Society were the IRA and the German Workers Partyy, Sinn Fien. The Thule's got their hands dirty and committed violence against other political groups, especially in their home base of Munich. Hitler's relationship with the Thule's was symbiotic, they needed a charismatic spokesman and he needed political power, suffice to say Hitler manoeuvred himself to power as his power grew his methods of gaining power became more sophisticated. Hitler however saw the Occult side as a means to a end, there were more active and occult practising members of the Nazi party who gained power along with Hitler in the 1920-1940 time period.
So the base for Nazism was certainlyyinfluenced by Mystics, Occultics, Proto Historians and Spiritualists.

Heinrich Himmler and Rudolph Hess were probably the two most occult driven members of the Nazi Party, Hess was fascinated by Astrology where Himmler was much more Aryan influenced. It was Himmler a academic who had studied classical literature who founded the “Ahnenerbe” (A think tank that promoted itself as a "study society for Intellectual Ancient History." Founded on July 1, 1935, by Heinrich Himmler, Herman Wirth, and Richard Walther Darré, the Ahnenerbe's goal was to research the anthropological and cultural history of the Aryan race, and later to experiment and launch voyages with the intent of proving that prehistoric and mythological Nordic populations had once ruled the world). This group is the base for the Nazi Artefact hunters in the Indiana Jones films, And while the IJ films are fiction. Historical research shows that the Ahnenerbe's funded expeditions to, Iceland, The Crimea, Italy, The Ukraine and Tibet to search for proof and artifcacts that could be shoehorned into the Nazi Propaganda machine.
The SS adopted the double Sieg rune as its symbol, again going back to the theories of Von List and fallen SS soldershad a different gravestone, another rune instead of the cross, this was again to set them apart as a different race, they ccelebrated different holidays and swore some very Occult sounding Oaths on joining the SS.
Himmler himself thought he was a reincarnation of a King Heinrich of the 10th century who ruled over the lands west of Rome and was thought to be one of the mythical Armamanaschaft. Himmler also devised a practicall method of reintroducing the Aryan race, Membership of the SS was based on physical and genologicalcharacteristicss, Polygamysews encouraged among the SS and there were what now would be called Breeding and Nursemaid programmes. This reached a point where Aryan looking children and babies were being removed from their parents in the occupied countries and taken to the Aryan Nursery. Himmlers plan was a expansion of the German peoples “living room” eastwards across the Baltic states and eventually Russia. He was also in charge of the “Race and Resettlementntnt bearu” Had this come to pass Himmler harkend to some romantic notion of a pre industrial society, where majorityroty of the population wpeasantsant farmers but the rulover classlass had upper handhand in all things including technological superiority. Where the inventions of the age (Rockets, jet aircraft, Television) would be under the control of the Armanashaft ruling class. As well as the mystical icons and spiritual well-being of the Third Reich.

Hess was one of Hitler's original groupies. Introduced to Hitler through the Thule society. Its debatable what the reasons for Hess flying solo to Britain and trying to broker a peace treaty, some say it was a plan by secret agents who used Hess's interest in Astrology to manipulate Hess into doing so, some say it was a independent action of Hess and he believed he was acting in the best interests of Germany and Hitler for doing so. Whatever the reasons, Hess failed in his mission and ended up a prisoner. (Its interesting to note that Ian Fleming proposed that Hess should be debriefed by Alistair Crowley in a attempt to lean any Nazi occult secrets and plans.)
In Germany however, days after Hess's flight. Hitler who had dictoral power over the German people by then decreed that all Astrologers, Fortune Tellers, Palm readers etc. were to be arrested. Many were and subsequently disappear into the concentration camp system. The Occult Lodges were systematically raided by the SS and their books and artefacts confiscated, most ending up at Himmlers Wewelsburg castle in the Alme Valley. Which was the headquarters of the SS. This put a end to German occultism at least for a while and Its interesting to note though, that for all its occult themed Propaganda, any actual successes from the rituals of the SS seems to be ill documented.
A myth has grown up around the Hapsburg Spear, supposedly the Spear of Destiny. Indeed one of Hitler's first actions once he annexed Austria was to have the spear removed to Nuremberg, and its said that on the 30th April 1945 the spear fell into the hands of the 7th American Army, the day Hitler committed suicide.
While the American Space program certainly benefited from the Nazi scientists and debate still rages on should current Medical Science should use the results of Nazi medial experiments? Nazi occultism is a forgotten field. Were all the successess of the Nazi Occultistssuccessfullyy eradicated. Or is it far more plausible that they never really achieved success in the first place? And even at the highest levels of their most secret society's the practices were nothing more than ritual without any tangible Occult Result.
