I don't intend this as a specific criticism of you, Alex Gein, but this is an example of something that occasionally frustrates me in a newly-posted thread: there's nothing in the title, abstract (hey, at least you provided one) or post itself to indicate what I'll find if I click on those links. I'm intrigued by the "dark twisted" description but, seeing as I'm posting from a heavily-monitored work computer, am reluctant to go see.

Any chance (and I mean this in a general 'everybody' sense too) of giving at least some idea what we're linking to?

I had just read this, and was in shock. The web logs themselves are.... I don't even know what.

Its this guy who whilst on IRC (with a webcam) overdoses himself on drugs, whilst all his chat buddies egg him on. He takes a whole heap of pills and alcohol and whatever else, and dies.

He was found in his room the next morning by his mum.

The first link is a news article about it. The second link is the chat logs of the guy bragging about how much he can take while people egg him on. Some people seem to have got concerned but were unable to do anything much to help him.

I didn't think much of the news article, got the feeling that the writer had never used IRC, didn't understand the hopelessness that it can inspire and the fact that you really don't know if someone's just lying. The chat logs were awful to read... much more real then the article, I knew they wouldn't be able to trace him, not good at all and why didn't someone ring the police - because they were a load of kids who didn't know what the fuck was happening. It does bring up a question, is it true that cell phone's can't be traced in the States? In the UK there's a database that registers every mobile to the permanent residence of the owner, even when they're difficult to trace, you still know where the person lives.

It raises a very hefty point for the "just say no" argument. You can educate, harm-minimise, or whatever else, but some people are simply not capable of handling the responsibility and risks involved with drug use.

Guys like this are the ones who get psychotropic plants made illegal, because they go out and try eating the wrong shrooms or smoking something they shouldn't. Completely uneducated, and with no desire to change the situation, they just want to get "fucked up" and don't really give a toss how. No matter how responsibly everyone else does drugs, there will always be dickheads like this.

How are we ever supposed to make any drug use even partially legal, with this type of shit happening?
