Well, uh, since it's a game made by Nintendo, no. There's not. And there won't be. Especially since it's the best reason I've seen to buy the GCube....hands down, Prime is the best game that was released last year. It's a drag more people won't get to play it...

Hmm. I have M:P but I can't say it really grabbed me by the throat. Good game, but... maybe I just haven't been in the mood for that sort of solitary exploration stuff.

What struck me about it was that it's a very lonely game. You really do feel like you're stuck on an ancient planet with no friends for a million light years.

I can see that. There's a few things that really struck me about the game:

It does an incredible job of transforming the side-scrolling platformer into 3D. Despite the first-person aspect, it still plays like Metroid, and that's pretty cool. It shows that the first-person thing is good for more than bloodshed.

There's no load times. A ten second load happens when you take an elevator to a different map, but the maps are HUGE, and they stream effortlessly along, with no hitch and no slowdown. When the intricate design and high-res, very pretty textures are taken into account, that's an achievement.

And I like the level design quite a lot - rather than have a million corridor-based places, the game offers a few very large, partially open environments that unfold as your capabilites grow. Unreachable bits tantalize from afar until you're able to explore further. And the difficulty was for me just right - neither frustrating nor a cakewalk...it's a balance that few get right.

I'm a big fan of the exploration, so that's one reason the game held a lot for me. I've been reviewing other games in the past week, but always want to put them down and play M:P again.

...sorry to tease you, Jade.

The only videogame I care about (I was addicted to SM back when it came out to SNES) has a highly praised sequel and I can't play it. So, no problem at all with the teasing, videodrome. He he, nooooooo probleeem...

I've had a good time with the game, but a word of advice: DO NOT use a walkthrough. Take your time, use the in-game hints if neccessary, but don't use a walkthrough. It ruins the game, as the game is all about exploration. I used one a bit too much, and it left me feeling like a sucker.

I believe there is a cube/Metroid package selling for $150 around, and for a game that good, it's probably worth it.

Nah. A videogame is way out of my possibilities and priorities right now. My plan was to buy the game and play at my friend's place, but he's got a PS2 only. I hate each and everyone of you who played this game. I hope your thumbs wither and fall.

Well, Jade, as a consolation prize, the internet has made it easy for you to play the GBA Metroid: Fusion game. Just go here, download the stuff and follow the instructions. Poof! Instant gratification. Just don't tell Nintendo.

Ooh, thankyou, videodrome. Now I don't hate you anymore. (I won't be able to play this game for a while, since I only have a computer here at the office, but it gives me a nice warm feeling to know I have it stored within reach... thanks again!
