I can see that. There's a few things that really struck me about the game:
It does an incredible job of transforming the side-scrolling platformer into 3D. Despite the first-person aspect, it still plays like Metroid, and that's pretty cool. It shows that the first-person thing is good for more than bloodshed.
There's no load times. A ten second load happens when you take an elevator to a different map, but the maps are HUGE, and they stream effortlessly along, with no hitch and no slowdown. When the intricate design and high-res, very pretty textures are taken into account, that's an achievement.
And I like the level design quite a lot - rather than have a million corridor-based places, the game offers a few very large, partially open environments that unfold as your capabilites grow. Unreachable bits tantalize from afar until you're able to explore further. And the difficulty was for me just right - neither frustrating nor a cakewalk...it's a balance that few get right.
I'm a big fan of the exploration, so that's one reason the game held a lot for me. I've been reviewing other games in the past week, but always want to put them down and play M:P again.
...sorry to tease you, Jade. |
