So, new Common album. "Mmmmm, nice." Did anyone order some conscious rap?
It's good. It's not *fantastic*, though, and I'm not as enthusiastic about it as Flux. I can't help but think that part of my problem is that I'm just not mad about Questlove's production (I refuse to call him ?uestlove, what a gimp) - 'Soul Power' has really grown on me, but that's mainly due to the lyrics - "you had a hot track / I guess opposites attract" - how good a diss is that? - and "the nympho for info / I'm fuckin' what you heard". Okay, so I like that song a LOT, thinking about it. But I'm not crazy about all the ballads on this album, not even 'Come Close', which is the Neptunes phoning it in.
However 'I Got A Right Ta' is probably my favourite track, The 'Tunes showing off yet another production style - this time layering chugging guitars and harmonica to ill effect...
Anyway, running out of time on this 'puter - 'New Wave', 'Electric Wire Hustler Flower' and 'The Hustle' are also great, but what do YOU think? |
