Peace Magick

Another forum I'm a member of is discussing (squabbling over, actually) magickal action for the anti-war demonstration on 15 February. I'm not able to come to London for the march, and so I was thinking of doing a sigil. It would be more powerful if there were others doing the same kind of thing and we synchronised times. I'm quite a novice here, but I thought peace vibes specifically generated towards Bush and Blair might be the best way. Any ideas? I usually do stuff on my own, but I really want to connect with people for this.

Peace vibes won't go anywhere near Bush, they're boycotting him.

This is one time when magick alone just won't do it. You can't stop the war on Iraq with a sigil.

Go and stand outside your local government building and just stand there outside with your back to the building. Don't tell anyone what you're doing, no matter who asks you. (Especially if the press turn up, don't say a word to them - anything you say can and will be twisted and used against you.) Just show them that they don't have your support - that you're turning your back on them.

Um, I don't think I was suggesting that it could. I was saying that those who are not able to join mass demonstrations might want to co-ordinate their energies so that they could join the demos in spirit at least.

Back to working alone, then.

In many ways the demonstration itself is a powerful magickal act which will have a strong etheric resonance. The visual/media image of a few hundred thousand people protesting the war is a powerful symbol and is the most overt aspect of the protest - it shows the rest of the world and reaches out to those would-be protesters who may feel alone. The other half of the working is the energy generated by the event, by the focus of so many for the mutually agreed upon outcome. For the subtle side of the protest/working, it is not necessary for an individual to actually be present to make a difference. I think this is what SFD is trying to leverage, and while the overt side has much focus, the subtle aspect is probably somewhat indistinct. Any additional workings on the etheric plane of the protest would surely be beneficial, whether by individuals or groups.

So, I guess I'm saying "Count me in!". I was at the recent SF rally (Jan 18th) and would love to contribute to the London Working. For obvious reasons, I won't be able to physically make it to the rally (unless some generous soul cares to fly me out...).

Synchronistically, I chose the weekend of 3/15 for my own Barbelith Working: Nature hikes, lot's of mind-candy, and a straight read of the whole Invisibles series. Perhaps the London Working could utilize the Barbelith egregore...?

SFD, if this post gets buried, would you be sure to resurrect it before 3/15?

Thanks.

peace magick sounds great to me. every action against war is good, rituals, sigils, demonstrations, articles, antiwar street art and whatever you can think of...

How about awaking up a angel that follows G.W.Bush around and bombs his brains with peacethoughts? Since hes christian i think a angel would work pretty good... A fat little angel sitting on his chest when hes going to sleep...

What I've done is a painting based around a sigil for peace, which I'm going to place somewhere public early on Saturday morning. There's a real lack of govt type buildings around here, which makes my original plan of tying the painting to the railings outside no go (tying/binding stuff to railings has long been used in protests), so I'll place the painting at the local war memorial, both in memory of people who've died in wars and as positive energy against this latest threat.

I agree that the huge numbers that will be in London and elsewhere on Saturday should have a powerful energy.

[OT]I think those posts originate before Mike announced hir intention to leave the board.[/OT]

I'm feeling exceptionally blah about attempting a magickal intervention (little chaoette, BIIIIGGGGG ol' impending war) but I'll be attending a peace demo in Dublin on Saturdy Feb 15th. If anyone who's not able to make a similar rally would like me to carry something for them (a small sigil, a mantra to chant, whatever) I'll try and help out.

Well I'm going to the Chicago demonstration, and my magickal act will essentially entail bringing the peace mango with me. Possibly a real mango and definitely the sigil itself attached to a protest sign. Would placing the Peace Mango on a sign that says "Bush is a Terrorist" force too much negative energy onto the Mango or what? In fact, maybe I should ask some questions on the Peace Mango thread...
