Can't link to ananova for some reason, but read the headline there.

"Police would like to speak to anyone who has any information about the tablets."

Hmm. Wondered where I'd left 'em. Do you think they'll give them back if I ask nicely?

All on the floor of Soho House again?

So what's the story? They found all those pills and handed them in?

Kids today! No initiative!

What a waste.

Hmmm...this would of course, given the current price of Es, mean that the children 'accidentally' stumbled upon somewhere between six to seven and a half thousand pills...

Maybe they kept a few?

The cops seem to always inflate the value of drugs that they seize (or have handed over to them, in this case). It makes it seem more impressive. Australia's largest ever ecstasy bust happened a few weeks ago, and the total "street value" of the pills being given by the cops would have meant that each tablet would sell for about AU$75, each, which seems to be a rather inflated figure. Or maybe the cops are just used to getting really bad deals.

Clearly a lot more then you'd expect but does anyone know the current exchange rate for £ AU$?

As of 15:30 GMT today, the global exchange rate for AUD to GBP was 1 GBP = 2.78627 AUD. That means the Aussie police were valuing each tablet at roughly £26. Yes. I'd say that was an inflated price.

although in oz they do retail for between 30 and 60, depending on how bad a deal you do get.

But by the above exhange rate, even that's £11 - £22, per pill. I've never paid more than a £5, and usually only £4.

They're $40 per pill, Australian, or at least were about three weeks ago.

To get a relatively accurate exchange rate, just multiply pounds by three; with "transport costs" for most products you buy, it'll probably be right.

Pills in Australia are horribly overpriced. Quite a few friends who've come over are horrified to find that it's cheaper to drink than pop.

So with that in mind. I have a terrible headache, who'd like to send me some "aspirin"?

Four fucking pounds? A pox on this country!

Mystery solved. Whenever the police or customs in the UK say they have made a drugs haul worth, say, 50K they were just quoting the Australian price.
