Something I was considering as a suggestion in the 'Things to do with Column 2' thread was the introduction of 'sticky' threads, threads that are a constant presence on forum front pages so that new members see them immediately and older members can reference them with ease.
I generally hate the way that stickies appear on other boards - sitting at the top of the forum page, pushing other, more active threads down the list - but if they were housed in this second column this wouldn't be a problem.
One thing that's remained constant here over the years is the regularity with which certain threads keep reappearing. Over in Music right now the two most recently active threads are both regulars to the board - requests for specific MP3s and song titles - and similar threads pop up in Film frequently. Here in P&H the 'topic moves' thread, for example, could do with being more visible, as could the one in which Mordant explains board-specific HTML. If these threads were more obvious, it'd definitely cut down on the repetition that we face.
Stickies could be decided on by moderators. It might also be useful to introduce the ability to unmake stickies, returning them to regular thread status when (if) they're no longer needed. |
