First up, I have no idea where this should go, although about a book it doesn't really fit there, or in the art forum. If any moderators want to move it, be my guest.

Just wondered if anyone has come across this book, 'Supernatural Visions of the Madonna (1981 to 1991) London' by Sofia Marie Gabriel (Sister Marie). It's a Yellow Pages sized 700 page book and we got given a half-dozen copies as donation at work and decided it wasn't suitable for the shelves, so I nabbed one. It was apparently published in '93 but someone republished it in 2000.

It reads like the Christian Fundamentalist version of the Principia Discordia. Here's the text from the inside page (apols for capitals)

Well, that pretty much sets out the themes of the book, it's not something anyone vaguely sane would want to read cover to cover, but on dipping in the general theme is that God is pissed off with all the evil and will send a sign, via Halley's Comet, that people better do as this Nun says or he's laying around him with the fire and brimstone and stuff again. She's no Sister Wendy, she's very much that we've strayed far from God'd designs and better get back toot sweet, there's a bit about women being harlots and men unmanning themselves which I can't find to quote right now.

GOD'S FINAL WARNING GOD'S ULTIMATUM TO BRITAIN, EUROPE, USA 1992.

...GOD HAS COMMANDED A RELIGIOUS SISTER TO DELIVER HIS ULTIMATUM TO PARLIAMENT!

REDUCE CRIME STOP ALL WARS & VICE IMMEDIATELY, WITH DRACONIAN DETERRENTS, OR FACE GLOBAL EXTINCTION AS IN THE DAYS OF NOAH! NOT JUST BY FLOOD, BUT BY A COSMIC COLLISION WITH A GIGANTIC ASTEROID! WHICH WILL WIPE OUT NATIONS FOREVER! ALL TRACES OF PORNOGRAPHY DESTROYED.

IT IS GOD'S ABSOLUTE COMMAND THAT CAPITAL PUNISHMENT MUST BE THE FIXES STATUTORY PENALTY FOR ALL SERIOUS CRIMES (Serious was added as an afterthought) WITHOUT EXCEPTION BECAUSE IT IS THE ONLY DETERRENT THAT CRIMINALS REALLY FEAR AND WILL DO ANYTHING TO AVOID.

There are letters from the press, mainly asking for interviews but where the writer (Sister Marie) one assumes has included them because she sees them as validation that she's right I see them as a lot of newspapers wanting an interview to fill a slow newsday with a 'kook' story. Similarly, the letters from royalty seem to be of standard 'The queen thanks you for your letter and has asked me to reply' type.

The last bit, which is distinctly unsettling, is a couple of documents insisting that her parents were killed by the NHS, a deliberate policy of 'starvation and morphine'. She has photo's of her parents before and during, though the during photo's look like they are of someone else.

CAPTION; STARVED JOHN SAGATIS IN MAY 1992. STARVED BY NURSES INTO AN EMACIATED FAMINE VICTIM!!! IN JANUARY THIS WAS A VERY FAT CHUBBY FACED MAN WHO ONLY CAME TO ST MARY'S ONLY WITH A FRACTURED LEG.

What we see in the photos is a wellish man of average weight, a sick man who, after being in hospital for a while is several stone lighter but no 'famine victim' and captions written by someone who was possibly somewhat strange beforehand now completely out of it with grief.

There are loads of pictures, mostly religious but some of friends and locations of Sister Marie, if she wrote this thing she's quite the self-publicist, though she doesn't appear in any photos. One picture is a collage of the Virgin Mary looking down on the faces of what I assume where women from porn mags. Looking at this for any length of time is a bit of an uneasy experience.

A friend of mine, with who I used to do a zine, did a couple of articles on Sister Marie (under the title, I think, of "Repent you bastards!") I will try to find them.

Funny thing being, there WAS actually that comet about when she said there would be... that was when we decided the articles'd come in handy...

Hmmmmm......I'm into a lot of cool weird stuff, I'm posting and reading over at the Magick forum all the time. But this sounds a little too fire and brimstone for me to really buy into, even with the comet showing up when she said. Any more info. on this interesting woman?

But from flicking through the book the comet in question is Halley's, surely that's not too difficult to predict? But I'd quite like to see those articles Stoatie.

Seeing as she's concerned with the Third Prophecy of Fatima and the Pope revealed (or 'revealed' if you're a conspiracy-head) that it was to do with him getting shot, i wonder what she thought of that?
