Scaling Gravity
Gravity Scale
How do we measure Human Rights?
30 rights who goes first?
The UDHR 1948 describes these as indivisible. To be born human is to have all of those rights. Therefore one human equals one indivisible set of rights laid out in 1948 by the UDHR.
A vision is of a ‘world which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the UDHR’
All rights are applicable to all humans. Any diminution to these rights need our intervention.
The scale of the problem is determined by the degree of rights abuse multiplied by the number of people affected. This gives us a Gravity Scale for which attention is given according to severity.
Critical
1)Democracy Abuse any attempts to influence the outcome of elections must be severity sanctioned and referred to the ICC. Abuses like this are self perpetuating and deprive all the population the fundemtal right of access
2)Children Abuse The younger the abuse the longer more pronounced physiological longer term damage. These innocence must be protected.
3)Death / War / Genocide / Mass Murders / Disappearances / Executions / clearly an absolute rights abuse and deserving of severest penalties. No more shall the Pinochets, Warrens Norieaga and Pol Pot henchmen walk the streets after so many rights were denied to their victims
4)Justice Abuse attempts to pervert the course of justice punishable and companionable. POCs / Fair Trial / Political Prisoners / Execive Force /
5)No Impunity – Corporate / government / terrorist / individual. Retort to ICC The abusers must be given no pardon.
Imperative
1.No Torture - mental / physical / Hostages / MSP
2.Imprisonment / detention / refuges / migrants / asylum seekers / internment camps etc This area is closely related to stability in original countries and economic issues. Poverty creates crime, refugees, and asylum seekers
1)Food and Water the basic physiological necessities to sustain life.
2)Sanitation & Medication the 1st line of defence
3)Forcible Exile / refugees / immigrants /
Desirable
1)Freedom of Speech / Religion / Political Beliefs and the right of access for all these intellectual and spiritual pursuits.
2)Discriminitation
3)Right to Education
4)Right to Work.
5)Right to Clean Air, Earth and Sea
This is roughly the order that Laslo puts the Desires of Humans.
self actualisation
Esteem
Love/Social
Safety
Physiological
Physical Freedom
Mental Freedom
Economic freedom
with so much going on in the world how do we measure what crisis gets our attention. The media cannot be trusted to make this decision for us.
