Harold & Maude

My favourite movie of all time. The most beautiful, I think, movie of all time. It looks beautiful, it sounds beautiful (Cat Stevens, what a hero he was before he went all "Let's kill Salman Rushdie"). It's also a beautiful story.

I love the cars.

I've just watched, for the first time, my new DVD copy of the aforementioned movie. *Contented sigh* Oh the symbolism. I could write a whole page on Uncle Victor alone. And the suicides. God I love the suicides. No movie has ever impressed me to the degree of Harold & Maude. You could try and try and try but you will never convince me that there is a better movie. Go ahead. Try!

and if anyone says "The Wicker Man" I'll, I'll... Um... hunt them down and slap them! I hate that movie.

You soppy romantic fool. Yes, good movie (although Bud Cort's eyes alarm me, but Ruth Whatsername - Gordon, just remembered - is highly entertaining), even better book though. Rocketh right enough, though not my all time favourite by any means.

This cult novel which charmed me as a boy, Mr A. A fine read.

For someone who already has a very good video copy, are the DVD extras interesting enough to make it worth picking up?

I fear that JAMM is gonna have to hunt me down and kill me.

Look, it's only a movie, okay?... (please don't hurt me)

And anyway, everyone knows "Ed Wood" is the greatest movie ever made. Anyone who doesn't cry when Bela dies is some kinda fucking lizard.

From what I can recall, there's barely even the film on the DVD - at least the Region 2 version. All this Harold and Maude fun is making me want to change back into Ruth Gordon again.

There's nothing extra on the DVD at all which disappointed me greatly. There are screen shots on the cover of bits I've never seen - and this was part of the excitement in the purchase but, alas, no new footage during the actual film. The only other extras are a couple of trailers which I thought were cool.

I finished the play a few days ago, and it can stand in as a director's cut. It was fantastic. It has everything from the movie plus extra bits like Maude talking about her husband, and Harold's mum meeting Maude. Wow.

There are bits in the theatrical trailers that weren't in the movie. One is a pasionate kissing scene with Harold & Maude and another has Harold and Uncle Victor walking through a field with injured soldiers falling about on crutches, talking about how war brought us the ball point pen, with a rickety bunch of ten foot high poles spelling out the words "FUCK WAR" in the background, the "FUCK" bit of which falls over.

Please help me...

You see, I've just heard a terrible rumor and I need someone to tell me it isn't true.

Emilio Esteves is starring in a remake of Harold & Maude with Rosario the maid from Will & Grace.

Fortunately, I can so far find no trace of the rumor on the internet.
