Well, I'll be starting the 'meet in a park' thread for the third successive year this summer, and maybe this will be the first Summer when we actually meet in a park rather than going to a pub. Sometimes you wonder whether Barbeli can only survive in an atmosphere of spilt alcohol and cigarette fumes...

I would love this - picnic in the park? As long as I can bring a dog as well.

I'll make cheese and cucumber sandwiches and bring something really cheap and alcoholic... of course it's a bit early to plan in January.

In a park'd be good, if we get any sun this year. And I'd have to bring a dog too.

I'd come to Londinium just to sit in a park with you lot. Count me in... you can always tell me the wrong park to be in...

Absolutely up for non pub things. Dinner? Coffee? Finding a good gallery/museum type thing, Kat's ice-skating suggestion?

The meet in the park sounds like a plan of fantastic proportions, I look forward to hearing about it.

Other than that I say suggest something. I'm just interested in the kind of meet where I can remember the conversation more than five minutes afterwards.

i'm also up for ice skating - yay!

we've had a few park meets in the past - there was a great one where we went to st dunstanst in the east and broke all the by-laws (especially the ones regarding not holding conversations)

Skating, skating, skating! Yes please!

Picnics are always fun but it'll be a while before that's really feasible.

I'll ice skate, I'm awful at it but I absolutely love it. I'll need someone to prop me up for the first twenty minutes! Say, you know, February the 16th sounds like a really good day for a non-pub meet.

If I'm less than 100 miles away, I would definitely be up for ice-skating. I wanted to go to somerset house over christmas but it was ridiculously expensive (£9 = booking fee) and really busy.

I'm not trying to subvert the ice-skating plan (I'm on for it unless I'm skint), there's a Chinese restaurant near where I work doing an 'all you can eat for £8' thing. I'm prolly gonna try it tomorrow, and if its any good, well, there's always that kinda foodie posibility. At that price (even if some of us do drink) it will cost less than the average pub meet, will be considerably more healthy, plus the ex-smokers will have summat to do with their mouths / hands which does not involve tobacco. It is a licensed restaurant though, so anyone who wants to not be around drink at all had better stick with the ice-skating.

I cannot skate, I have no balance, and I'm convinced I'll break my wrists.

I am so in.

Does anyone know a good iceskating rink in London? I'm going to net search anyway but nothing beats personal recommendations.

Bill, how was your Chinese restaurant?

I used to go skating at Alexandra Palace but it was always seasonal and years ago!

Ok, well here's the Alexandra Palace website.

Of course, it will probably be sunday afternoon, and full of small, scary kids bombing about but might be worth a try anyway.
